well i have a macbook pro 13 inch.

i bought myself an ipad. 16 gig.

if i find that the ipad is awesome enough to replace a laptop, i think i would sell it, and buy a bigger ipad.

who else would be willing to do so?

if you deem your macbook or anything, laptop, not as useful anymore.

(in all likelihood, i will keep my mbp just because i love it. its my baby; jebadiah) ahaha

I never own apple products, and I am not crazy about apple. Once I heard about the ipad, I sold my 1-month old laptop and preorder 32GB wifi. I use Desktop for all serious works.

The only way I would sell my Laptop is if I had a desktop. It depends on the person, for some people, an iPad is all you need, internet and email. However, if you spend any significant amount of time using the computer, its probably good to keep a full computer around. My iPhone took a good 50% of my Computer usage, i'd expect the iPad to take a good 40%, mainly internet use. However, for things like Photoshop and serious computing, that last 10% will see the use of my MacBook Pro.

Again, depends on your usage.

I have both an iMac and a MacBook Pro....This has been something that has crossed my mind multiple times. I honestly wish I could say that I could do this and I would really love to be able to, but there are still a few things that I really need portability for that the iPad couldn't do.

For example, I use Logic on a daily basis and it's nice to work on things away from the iMac, especially when not at home. There are a few other reasons as well, but this is one of the huge ones. I know I'm going to love the iPad and it would be so great for it to be my one and only portable device, but it looks like I'll have to have all 3 for now. Hopefully some day....heh

I made the decision

I also have an iMac at home (well 2 actually), and really looked at what I use the MBP for,
  • Couch browsing the web
  • Holiday browsing the web
  • Light xls work
  • Messenger (non cam) to chat with friends

I had the MBP before the iMacs, and yes it was hard to give it up (been harder waiting for its replacement) but the sell of it is funding the iPad, bag etc :D

You need a computer to use an iPad so no I won't be selling.

This remains to be seen. Apple has officially announced that they will be providing in-store set up for those who need/want. It's not 100% clear if it can be done w/o a 'computer' or not. Either way, once you're out of the store, you don't *need* a computer for anything other than OS updates.

And even that is a choice on Apple's part, not a technical limitation. They could easily set aside a portion of the memory and allow OS updates on the device itself.

In fairness, I will retain my household iMac to use as a central store for media, and syncing. BUT I will do so only as long as necessary. Sooner or later it all lives in the cloud.

In the meantime, I'm definitely retiring my 15" MBP and will be using the iPad (64GB + 3G) as my primary computer.

Blogging about it for those interested in the experience. I'll be honest about funky workarounds, 'lapses' wherein I need to use the iMac for something I'm unable to do with/on the iPad itself.

I changed my main system last month in iPad anticipation.

Was using 15" unibody MBP + 24" Cinema, replaced with 27" iMac i5.

Having used iPhones since 2007, I am confident the iPad will fully cover my mobile and casual computing needs.

Getting rid of laptop and getting an iPad. Will have that and 21.5" iMac. I only use the laptop to surf nowadays in the house. I won't be taking it anywhere but the couch. :p

I'm not ready to give up my MBP for the ipad. I think both devices will complement each other. I do wish apple would make a hybrid portable with detachable screen which would work as a MBP or Ipad depending on how it was connected

I just sold my 3G iPhone, and am going to sell my 15" MBP.

Still have my iPhone 3Gs and my 17" MBP, so Ill be adding the iPad to my collection (besides I dont use the older items anyway).

At home I have an iMac and MBP. The iMac is my main computer and where I do all my photo editing. The MBP sits in the living room and what I use to just browse the web and check email mostly. I never take it anywhere.

I'm selling the MBP to get the iPad. With the instant on and ease to transport, I'll use the iPad for the couch surfing and take it to work to use in meetings, etc.
