WiMax going into iPhone

Looks like there will a WiMax/WiFi chipset integrated into iPhone -- from Apple's CPU partner Samsung:

WTF? The iPhone won't change for at least a year, hardware-wise, and this is about Sprint/Nextel. AT&T has *NO* plans to use WiMax anytime soon.

WTF? The iPhone won't change for at least a year, hardware-wise, and this is about Sprint/Nextel. AT&T has *NO* plans to use WiMax anytime soon.

wong is right. WiMAX looks to be a Sprint only affair cell carrier wise. From what I can tell AT&T may look to UTMS Rev 8.

Intel has a WiMax/WiFi/HSDPA chipset and I can pretty much guarantee you it will show up in a MacBook Pro soon -- likely this year... only logical that WiMax would show up on iPhone too... I pretty much guarantee, the new MacBook Pro sub-notebook will be a derivative of this:

More options are better, practical WiMax speed is around 10 Mbit/s, but could goto 70 Mbit/s...

Good for Nokia. What does that have to do with WiMAX only having Sprint as a carrier, and Apple being tied to AT&T with the iPhone?

Nothing. It just means that even if Apple adds 3G, Nokia will still be ahead with WiMAX and DVB-H, plus the fact that they also offer unlocked, prepaid, discounted, REAL smartphones.

Supposedly, this new he Intel WiMAX Connection 2300 chipset somehow does HSDPA over WiMax -- see their news release:

Good for Nokia. What does that have to do with WiMAX only having Sprint as a carrier, and Apple being tied to AT&T with the iPhone?
