Win XP Pro in BootCamp - Losing my mind ??

Can I not use BootCamp to partition my brand new MacBook's drive and then install and boot into Windows XP Pro SP2 ? TigerDirect is telling me I cannot. Now I'm scared to purchase a copy ! I must be missing some detail because I thought this would work. My conversation with the TigerDirect guy went as follows:

Me: I'm going to create a second partition on my mac and run win xp ppro on it but see the following link: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2571830&body=QA#tabs
Me: Notice in the questions and answers someone asks if this windows will run on a macbook pro and the answer was "No". Why is this ? Is this correct ?
Me: I'm intending to use Apple's BootCamp product to dual boot the macbook and run this win xp pro
Tiger Direct: yes is correct wont work.
Me: Darn. Which versions of windows will ?
Tiger Direct: none
Me: Yes they will ! Apple's bootcamp allows you to run windows on a Macintosh
Tiger Direct: you will need to get we apple and ask this question because on are record show wont work.

You can install windows using bootcamp. It's well documented, and there are plenty of tutorials out there.

Check any of the plethora of threads here where people ask if OEM XP will install and run on their Macs. It is not a supported/recommended install media (by Apple), but that doesn't mean it doesn't work.

Thank all of you Whew - this was what I was thinking originally. People at work recommended Tiger Direct to me, but after this I'm not going to use them. Newegg it is !

NewEgg used to have a policy that they would only sell you an OEM version operating system if you had purchased some qualifying hardware that represented a new computer, such as processor or motherboard. I don't know if that's still true - I've bought several OEM XP versions in the past when I was building PCs. When I ordered this last version of XP to install on my Mac (which went fine BTW), I had no problem with the OEM version even without the concomitant hardware purchase. So, maybe they got rid of that requirment, but if not, I know Tiger Direct never pays any attention to that stuff.

There is no specific or set price the hardware has to be, merely that there is some sort of eligible hardware present in the order itself.

i purchased xp pro oem from newegg (first purchase from newegg) without any additional hardware and installed it in boot camp and run the boot camp partition with vmware fusion as well... works great and saved me some good $
