I just downloaded this great app from the app store, called Winadmin. Basically, you can control your PC or Mac entirely via your iPhone, from anywhere you have cell phone service. Here's a (poor quality) video i made to show some of the things it can do.

How is it different from the VNC or RDP clients in the app store?

There's others out there such as LogMeIn which works well.

One nice thing about LogMeIn is that it takes the hard work out of the setup and NAT traverses.

you dont need to be anywhere near your computer, or even on wifi.

with winadmin, you dont need to install any software on your computer. and setup is as easy as giving your computer a name on your iPhone, and entering it's IP address.

There are other apps which don't require additional software or wifi connectivity. I have used three of these, Mocha VNC, iRDesktop, and Winadmin but have stayed with Mocha VNC and iRDesktop.

So how do you do this if say your computer is in England and your iPhone is in the US?

Unless you have a static IP for your computer, you will need to make some adjustment to the DHCP IP so that you can find your computer.

Of course if you are in the same zone, you can easily find the IP.

The advantage of LogMeIn type software, is that both sides go to a common server and are linked there. Then you basically have a VPN setup between the two end points without having to traverse NAT routers and Dynamic IP addresses.

Maybe I am missing something about this app.

To connect to your dynamic IP at home just use DynDNS service which is free. You can then connect via a hostname and not even need to remember an IP address..

Understand.

But for many, this is more than they care to do or in some cases capable.

Services like LogMeIn, GoToMyPC, and the like make it easy for anyone to set up remote control of their PC or Mac without having to address the Dynamic IP issue via DynDNS or other.
