I know, I know... this might be a post for some Windows forum...

That said... most of my stuff is apple-centric. I just purchased Server 5.4 with the hopes of setting up a VPN on my High Sierra Mac Pro that lives at home. I successfully set up a VPN and I'm able to connect from a couple of iDevices remotely. All good so far.

However, when I try to connect a Windows 10 (home) PC to my VPN, I keep getting the error "The L2TP connection attempt failed because the security layer encountered a processing error during initial negotiation with the remote computer."

Anyone figure this out? Is there a better protocol to use with Windows machines?

Thanks.

So I think that the below registry tweak may help — from my research, Windows isn't fully supporting L2TP the way macOS Server expects without this.

For Windows Vista, 7, 8, 10, and 2008 Server:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\PolicyAgent

RegValue: AssumeUDPEncapsulationContextOnSendRule

Type: DWORD

Data Value: 2

Note that after creating this key you will need to reboot the machine
