Anyone get the Creators update? I'll probably be installing it later today on my SurfaceBook and iMac.

From what I've read its really a small update, some nice features for gamers but not much else for the rest of us.
Here's Ars Technica's review
In terms of what's actually been delivered, however, and 1703 just doesn't seem all that, well, creative. Let's start with those headsets: they're not on the market yet, and they're probably some months away. The Creators Update introduces substantial programmatic support for them, and will be enough for developers to start creating software for the Windows Holographic APIs—but the operating system itself doesn't include any particularly significant 3D features for the end-user.

Already up-and-running with my VM-WIN10-15063.138 virtual machine for testing ESET SSP 10.2.10.0 beta. Runs like clockwork!

The thing I like most, is the brand new Windows Defender Security Centre. This might be THE alternative for all 3rd party AV/FW applications!

NOTE: I updated my 14393 using the ISO I downloaded from MS.

Cheers

I'm working on my iMac right now, so I'll do my SurfaceBook first, plus I think that will be more seamless because it is a MS product (at least that's my hope :) )

I've always had issues upgrading to the next version of windows on my Macs, usually driver issues on Apple's part but since I'm working and need the iMac I'm not prepared to handle any downtime.

I have not updated my personal machine yet. My work VM won't update because it has not been released for Enterprise edition.

I already had it.. it's nice.. some cool features. Not everyone will notice the difference.

Telemetry speaking there are two settings : basic and full, by default it's in FULL mode, if you kick it back to basic, the current basic is the former FULL mode of the Anniversary update. Basic mode also shoot out the IMEI of your phone if your pair it.

This is the complete list of data collection in basic mode. Also note that they seem to have changed some registry keys that disable telemetry. So the software you use to disable telemetry will probably need to be updated to disable telemetry of this update.

It also captures that data too: link

You can also visite Microsoft's privacy dashboard to see if there is something that you want to remove.

If you're using the BASH (Linux subsystem), please note that it won't be upgraded by default, you need to uninstall and reinstall it to get the latest version (16.04.1), which you can apt upgrade to 16.04.2.

Also note that there is built-in telemetry in these crossplatform tools: Visual Studio Code (user preference, search telemetry) and the .Net core framework (export DOTNET_CLI_TELEMETRY_OPTOUT=1).

Cheers

I just updated my iMac with the Creators update, the process was smooth, my VPN and gotomypc didn't break so that's a win yay :)

I'll be digging into the system a little more as the day progresses

I did the update on my Lenovo Yoga 710.
Before the update everything was just fine.
Now everything is slooow....... Even typing this message lags .....
I suddenly remembered why I prefer OS X....

You're not proving anything here. The same thing could happen on Mac. Unless you troubleshoot more and find the culprit: (OS or an application), there is nothing to see here.

I am not seeking to prove anything. I only share my personal experience. And according to that, this kind of trouble happens much more often on windows than OSX. Clearly YMMW.

PS
I googled the issue and it seems that I am not the only one in this boat.

PPS
I am not a windows hater but dual system user who strive to have the best experience on both systems.

I was able to successfully update an older HP Laptop that I have. No issues with the upgrade.

Making a bootable USB as we speak, hated Win10 performance before however I'm going to sacrifice an SSD for it so I can give it every fighting chance to win me over.

It's been a while but setting UEFI first I can probably just drag and drop the contents of Microsofts Creators Edition image to a FAT32 usb in MacOS it will just boot and install correct?

EDIT: Yes...yes it will. Wasn't sure if I had dreamt that or not (seemed too easy).

For those interested if you only have MacOS available....

1. Download the Win10 ISO from Microsoft.
2. Format and USB with FAT using the MBR scheme.
3. Open the ISO and drag and drop its contents into the USB.
4. Boot from USB.

If it won't boot make sure you have boot mode to UEFI only. If you are already running another OS (like Linux) it may not work so in that case set both ON but UEFI first.

Gotta be in it to win it
I have updated my sp4 to the creators update and another laptop, which started life as 8.1. Both updates went smoothly. I don't notice many outward facing differences other than some apps, but settings seem to have underwent an overhaul.

In reading the above posts, why does Microsoft collect an imei? (It's more of a rhetorical question I guess)

Does anybody know if the creators update can *legally(according to the tos)* be applied to windows 7? Or has that window passed?

I updated my Dell server and the Bootcamp on my late 2015 iMac with no problems. Simply used the upgrade assistant tool.
Maybe I haven't dug too deep but I don't see that many differences, if any
