HELL
(This might not be the correct forum to post this in; this forum seemed to make the most sense to me for some reason.)

I'm planning on buying a Chromebook, but to hell with ChromeOS, I'm gonna install Windows 10 on it (have you seen the prices of those high-end Windows 10 PCs?).

So, thanks to a trusty tech nerd by the name of Dave Bennett, I know (and have) what I need to do this. But there's a slight issue.

The program I *tried* to use to make my USB drive bootable, Rufus, isn't showing my USB. I've tried everything (including formatting the drive). No matter what, the log in Rufus says that my USB isn't reporting itself as a disk. Is there any way to make my USB report itself as a disk?

Are you talking about making a USB installer (like a thumb drive) or are you talking about running Windows off of a USB drive?

Crap, I should have verified -- I'm trying to make a USB installer.

OP, you'll have a lot more luck with Linux on that thing than Windows. Not only are there drivers for it, performance will be better.

See my sig, i have an Acer c720 and have been running Linux on it for nearly Two years

Chromebook $299
Windows 10 $299
Coming to a mac forum for advice on how to install Windows on your chromebook in the gaming subforum: priceless

There's some things money can't buy, for everything else, there's macrumors.

I recently bought several 4gb thumb drives from Sandisk to use as OS install media for different Operating Systems. As it turns out, they show up in Windows as hard drives instead of removable storage. I contacted Sandisk support and was told those particular USB drives were created with Windows 10 specs in mind per request from Microsoft. He didn't go into detail but did say they will not show up as USB removable drives. This may be the reason your thumb drives are not seen by Rufus. Next time you plug it into a Windows PC, look to see if it is under the hard drives section or listed as removable media.

I recently lost the internet on my MacBook Pro Retina and bought a high-end Microsoft computer running windows 10. Regretting it now.
