Hi All,

Super stoked that windows10 on the M1 Mac is finally getting there ?

Below video I just saw runs through how to install the current trials, plus how it performs for gaming.

My questions here are:
Q1) How is Office running under the Windows10, on the M1 Mac?
Q2) Are printer connections ok?
Q3) What about internet browsing?

E.g.
1. If the Missus cannot get on with the macOS, then we can always swipe left, and 'ta da' we are into a familiar windows 10 environment.
2. If I need to work in a windows 10 environment, and want to have office running as well in the same workspace.

Hope you can advise :)
As I say, super stoked!

Best wishes

Martin

Office runs fine. I installed it on my VM last night. Haven't spent much time performance testing, but it works. Probably won't be a speed demon, but should be serviceable. For me, it'll mostly be verifying my PowerPoint files created on macOS display properly on PPT for Windows. Was doing it via Citrix when on my laptop (or directly on my PCs when home), but having it local instead of going through Citrix will probably be more convinient.

Web browsing with Window's Edge (as well as Chrome) also works without trouble. It also appears to sync with OneDrive without issue.

Just be aware that Windows for ARM that Mac-users have access to will for the foreseeable future always be a "preview" version. Microsoft has said that, at least for now, there's no plans to release it as a retail SKU, which means that the Apple Silicon Macs will only have access to what essentially is a developer/beta version of Windows -- in other words, it may not always function as expected or there may be bugs and incompatibilities that official release versions don't exhibit, even on Windows ARM-based machines. You'll also need to provide your own retail Windows activation key if you want to be able to activate it (and thus adjust personalized settings like desktop wallpapers, task bar settings, etc).

Edit: Cisco WebEx Meetings for Windows appears to work correctly, too, including using whatever camera is connected to macOS (appears to work with both the internal Mac FaceTime camera as well as my external Logitech Brio for when my MacBook Air is docked at my desk).

If your wife is not comfortable with MacOS, I am not sure running an preview version of Windows on ARM is a good solution. Maybe pickup a used Intel Mac then worst case you can install Bootcamp and use it as a Windows PC.

Does that mean whatever version of Windows ARM you install will never expire?

Preview versions of Windows (regardless of whether they are built for x86 or ARM systems) have an expiration date. You would need to keep the preview build updated in order to extend that window, as each new build has a later expiration date.
