Windows 10 or 8 on Sierra bootcamp (Mid 2010)

Hello there.

A couple days ago i've been upgraded OS to sierra. Tell you next story with hope one of your answer will be helpful because for me its very important question right now.



Before upgrade i used El Capitan and Windows 7 bootcamp. Now, after upgrade, on Bootcamp menu i see two very magical options:







The most interesting thing is my MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010) and there are no options to instal Windows 7 or 8.1, just 10 or later? Apple says that MB older than 2012 does not support Windows 10. Use Windows 10 on your Mac with Boot Camp - Apple Support

My MBP is even older. So, why i can't chose instal Windows which my notebook supports? I use Windows for my own purposes to do some work and its very important for me how long it takes to instal Windows properly by using BootCamp.



The second thing happened after upgrade OS my MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-898 stop burning CD's and DVD's. Seems like there some drivers problems (The burn failed because of medium write error). I tried to burn most expensive DVD's i found in my city and its still doest work.



My question is very simple. Is there any way to instal Windows 10 or Windows 8 on Sierra by using Bootcamp if i have no option to choose to do it through the USB Flash. MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010)

I believe Sierra's BootCamp is only compatible with Windows 10, regardless of your computer's model.

I have read that there is a way to install Window 10 directly from an ISO using BootCamp but I am not sure if that works on your 2010 MBP. I have a laptop like yours and I tried everything but I could never get Windows to install using a USB, so I suggest finding another PC or Mac to burn Windows using.

It's true that boot camp on Sierra only supports Windows 10. I'd been trying so hard all weekend to get Windows 7 installed via a USB flash drive but nothing seemed to be working. However, I finally found the solution and it's all working now!

I have a mid-2010 13" MBP. You can definitely install Windows 7 if you're using El Capitan. Sierra won't work. For me, what I did was download the free trial of Daemon Tools. Here's a step by step of what I did:

1. Downloaded the .iso of Windows 7 via HeiDoc.net's tool.
2. Downloaded the Windows USB/DVD Download Tool directly from Microsoft.
3. Used the USB/DVD Download Tool to make a bootable USB flash drive of the Windows 7 .iso file.
4. Transferred the .iso file of Windows 7 to my MBP and put it on the desktop.
5. Downloaded the free trial of Daemon Tools for Mac.
6. Mounted the .iso file using Daemon Tools.
7. Ran Boot Camp (the Mac thought the mounted .iso was a disk rather than an .iso file), partitioned hard drive, etc.
8. When my MBP restarted, I inserted the USB bootable flash drive of Windows 7 I'd made on my PC and immediately hit the "C" key upon startup chime. This tells the Mac to boot via USB.

So basically, I tricked Boot Camp into thinking the raw .iso file was a DVD, and then "continued" installation on the USB flash drive when the MBP restarted to continue installing Windows with, what it thought, was a DVD install disk.

I'd searched for 3 days on how to do this and I finally got the answer I needed. Albeit, it's for El Cap and lower basically, which is unfortunate. I wonder if booting directly from USB using the "C" key on startup would allow a person to install Windows without boot camp, but no idea. The 2010 MBPs only support up to Windows 8.1, right?

Hello,

For me it doesn't recognize the iso mounted in Daemon Tools as a "physical drive"

any ideas why? and how I can fix that or a workaround?
