Windows 3.11 isn't an "OS" in and of itself. You need a copy of MS-DOS to install first, then you install Windows as a program in the MS-DOS environment.

If you don't have MS-DOS, you can get FreeDOS, but it's support for Windows 3.11 is a bit flaky at the moment.

yea I know I have everything ms dos 6.11 and windows 3.11. I have them in different folders base on which disc they are on. How would I get it to install without a floppy drive on my macbook? I know desktop parallel reads a floppy image call fdd but how do I make my folders into that?

Well, I know Windows 3.11 will install from a single folder, no floppy structure needed. Not sure about MS-DOS, though. Either way, you need to look up (Google) where to download a disk image for the appropriate version of DOS. They're available online, but pointing you directly to them would probably constitute 'promoting copyright violation', so you'll have to find them on your own. (You could use the FreeDOS floppy image, I can verify that it works with Parallels, but I doubt the MS-DOS 6 installer would run when booted from a FreeDOS disk.)

I did it.

I had Parallels beta running windows 3.11 for Workgroups. Shoot, I even found an old Microsoft TCP/IP stack and IE 4.01 so that I could go on the web through windows. It sure was slow, but made me proud that for the first time in my life, I was on the web with windows 3.1. I had lots of old floppies around that I had to convert into disc images.

I thought you had to make them into floppy disc images which are fdd instead of iso for parallel to read them as floppys? Can you tell me what I can do I don't have the floppies but I have all the files in folders and I have a floppy drive on my desktop so I can make floppies if need to. But how would I get this going on my macbook without a floppy drive?

I have the disc image for dos 6 but when I boot it starts loading cd driving and then it fails and goes into a blue screen asking me for disc one from the floppy set.

what do I need to find?? Cause I have everything needed. Can I convert my files into floppy disc images?? Can you explain to me how I can conver them into the fdd format?
dd is the usual way of making an image of a floppy. Take your average Linux live CD and run
Code:
dd if=/dev/floppy of=image.fdd
to create an image of a real floppy which can be used in Parallels or anywhere else...

You could also use some version of RaWrite http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RaWrite2 http://www.chrysocome.net/rawwrite if you have access to a PC.

And if you need to find where to download "boot disks" Google is your friend.

Are you sure you can install a DOS OS?
According to Parallels:

# Strong OS Support: A sophisticated virtual machine engine that offers the broadest support of x86-based operating systems, including:

* The entire Windows family - 3.1, 3.11, 95, 98, Me, 2000, XP and 2003
* Linux distributions from popular distributors like Red Hat, SuSE, Mandriva, Debian and Fedora Core
* FreeBSD
* “Legacy” operating systems like OS/2, eComStation and MS-DOS.
