Ive set myself up a 50GB partition to play some games.

I havent played PC games for years, turns out they got big, and 50GB is barely enough.... but thats not my problem

I purchased UT3.... and started the 8GB (!!!!!) download.

I dont have the fastest internet speed... and the download would take around 4 or 5 hours.... fine I thought, ill leave it on over night.

Changed my power saving settings to, "turn off screen after 10 minutes... but NEVER sleep computer"

Woke up this morning to find my laptop had shut itself down, it was compeltely off. My download was at around 40%.

Ive tried pissing about with the settings and cant figure out what to do.

Any help would be appreciated.

Was this the settings for On Battery or On Power? And was it for the activated power plan, ie. High Performance...

I set it for both on battery and on power, just to be safe.

As for power plan, I didnt change it, its the default setting.

Could that effect if the computer shuts down automatically though?

Was this set for the Balanced Plan? The defaults on mine has it to hibernate after 6 hours (360 minutes) with the Balanced Plan. You can either change that in advanced settings or just change the plan to High Performance.

Are you using Windows 7 release candidate, or the beta version? You do know about the warnings that Microsoft sent out saying that the beta version (and next year, the RC) will automatically shut down after 2 hours?

Good point, didn't think about that (Beta shutdowns started 1 July). However, don't you think he would have noticed it shutting down during the day?

Depends how often he's on the Windows partition. For example, I haven't used my xp partition since mid-june seeing as I didn't have any uni work to do since then.

Kicking myself for not thinking of that either. One of the problems of using Windows 95% of the time.
