Windows 7 on SL

So i just read alot of bad comments on people that have been trying to install Windows 7 on their mac.

Im about to install it now, but first i would like to know if any of you guys have had any problems or its just flawless.

I would like some feedback thankyou

Installed and runs just fine. The new Windows drivers are great for the trackpad.

The only issue I have, is Windows 7 can't read my home folder if I have run X11. Each time I do, X11 creates a .Xauthority file in my home folder, and somehow prevents Win7 from seeing anything in there.

You're reading bad comments because those people either

a) upgraded, which is ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS a terrible idea. Honestly if you use the upgrade option and run into problems, you deserve it.

b) are too ignorant to let go of their past grudges (I'm looking at you XP fanboys)

c) are having driver issues, which are not Microsoft's fault and are actually the manufacturers' fault, but they'll ignorantly blame it on Microsoft anyway.

d) or they simply have no ****ing clue what they're talking about.


Don't let the bad comments stop you from using an amazing OS. Pretty much everyone agrees that Windows 7 is far better than XP or Vista could ever hope to be, and love using it.

*facepalm* That's the 2.1 Boot Camp update. That's not going to install jack if you don't have 2.0 installed first. Wraz, the drivers are on the Leopard or Snow Leopard DVD. If you can (or have a copy available to you) use a Snow Leopard DVD so you'll get the Boot Camp 3.0 drivers (the newest available).

No problems here. I'm running the Win 7 RTM 64-bit version on an early Mac Pro w/ Snow Leopard. The SL 3.0 Bootcamp drivers don't install easily (they return an error message saying they aren't compatible w/ early Mac Pro's using 64-bit Windows), but there are workarounds. Didn't matter to me, because I'm using VMware Fusion 2.0, which essentially supplies the essential drivers.

I have Win 7 set up to run in the second window of Spaces under VMware: I hot-switch back and forth between Snow Leopard and Win 7 all day long. Because I use Win 7 a good bit less than SL, I have only one processor core allocated to Win 7, and 2 gig of memory (I have 10gig installed).

alright got it installed.
And even though i hate windows.
it runs pretty good, but i only installed it cause i wanted to play games
well yea everything is running perfectly, no problems at all.

don't be fooled. windows 7 is far better than snow leopard. i actually run it more often than SL on my macbook.

Alright i was wrong, nothing works and im ****ing pissed. i installed my snowleopard disc and all, nothing works. i can't open counter strike. and i can't hear any sound at all.

sounds like you're using windows 7 beta you probably illegally downloaded from somewhere. yah, no sound with that buddy.

I installed Win 7 64 bit and it worked fine. Did all the updates and so far so good. Works much better than Vista.

The only porblem is to work out what on earth I need Win 7 on my mac for!

What kind of mac do you have? I just installed it on my MBP 2,2 after the SL upgrade and Windows 7 works FANTASTICALLY! I am really amazed at how smooth it is. It's not going to replace SL, which is even better, but it is fun for gaming and finally a decent Windows experience. Also, what version are you isntalling? The 32-bit or 64-bit? I installed the x64 version, and despite my computer not being "64-bit supported" on the Apple side, it took a few tricks to get it running, but it wasn't too bad....and now it works awesomely!
