Well still the exact same issue...
I followed the above link:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3173
and downloaded this file:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3983
From a Windows XP Pro machine:
I downloaded the "iMac_Late_2009_2010_Win7_Drivers.zip" file from Apple.com
I formatted a jump drive and selected FAT32
I extracted the zip file above to a temporary folder
I dragged the "Drivers" folder and the file "AutoUnattend.xml" from the temporary folder to the root folder of the jump drive.
On the iMac:
I inserted the jump drive into the first usb port on the back of the iMac (nearest the edge where the DVD rom is.
I booted the iMac and used Bootcamp to prepare a 100GB partition for bootcamp/windows.
I used the bootcamp option to start the windows installation
The iMac started the windows installation. I then used the advanced options to format the partition before starting the installation. I then let the system start the installation of Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit
The system finished the first part of the installation and then did the first reboot. It rebooted and the Starting Windows message was displayed along with the animated windows 7 logo. Then the screen went black, I noticed the usb drive flash for a few seconds and then everything stopped and the black screen stayed. I had to hard power off the system and on the reboot it again said Safe mode
Start Normal etc..
Might the iMac need a Firmware update? Is there any chance that Windows 7 Ultimate is the issue? Any other ideas on ho to get this install to complete Id appreciate.
