Windows 7 sells out in U.K., do you believe that?

By most accounts, the Windows 7 phones are a very good revision A product. I'm not surprised at all.

I'd like to see Apple rethink the iOS interface. A grid of program icons is not necessarily the most innovative approach, and Microsoft's homescreen approach seems quite useful.
 
Yep, the reviews have been excellent. I'm planning on buying one within the next couple of weeks, it's just a matter of whether I want to throw more money at AT&T or not. Doesn't surprise me at all. From what I've read, Microsoft has capitalized on iPhone's almost antique UI and WinMo phones have always had excellent reception, far better than that of the iPhone. I still have my old AT&T Fuze because it's capable of lengthy calls where the iPhone can't even dial out.

Its a pretty good phone. It won't replace my iPhone but then in my experience it doesn't feel like the same kind of phone. Have you given it a try or are you just speculating?
 
You have to remember that Microsoft don't manufacture the phones, so if ther is a shortage (deliberate), then it's HTC's or Samsungs fault, and not necessarily Microsoft's (I know everyone like to bash them).

Credit where credits due, it seems like a really good OS, so it wouldn't surprise me if they really have sold out, with a reasonable amount of stock (remember, te manufacturers aren't going to make millions of them in case they don't sell, then they'd be left with loads of spare stock, but they'll have made, no doubt, an acceptable amount).
 
Thats because its a very good first attempt at a revamp by MS. Even i wanted to get one but the device i wanted (Omnia 7) wasn't available SIM Free.
 
Actually, WinMo usage is still fairly high in parts of Europe.

See these Comcast charts... again, they're usage, not sales... and you can see that the old Windows Phones are still around, in some cases (Italy, Spain) even being more widely used more than the iPhone.

I'd expect the user percentage to rise again with WP7 adoption.

Exactly, for a 1.0 OS (techanically 7.0 :D), Windows Phone 7 looks very promising. It is more polished than either iOS or Android when they came out. Give WP7 another year and they will incorporate all necessary features (multi-tasking / copy&paste etc...)
 
More amazing is that this post exists on MacRumors. And in the iPhone forum no less. The connection being?

erm.. what about numbers?..

you can produce 10 handsets and can call it a sellout when 10 of them are gone.. i'd like to see how many were shipped/sold in 1 week..
 
The Windows 7 phone is a great phone. I played with the Samsung Focus and the HTC Surround. The phones were really fluid and easy to operate. They did things right out of the box that I wished my iPhone would do without jailbreaking. I am still going to keep my iPhone 4 but I do plan on picking up the Samsung Focus. I think Windows finally got it right and this will only make Apple introduce new features! Competition is GREAT!

No surprised, its a good OS and the phones appear to be very well designed as well.

My verizon contract ends in July, so I'm looking forward to trying them out then.

With that said, I do love the customization ability that android provides. I change my themes around about monthly and its widgets really make the phone quite useful
 
My 2 local mid-sized computer shops are totally sold out of Windows 7. I could believe it.

Same. It is a great os though.

As for windows mobile 7.... It's more of a step back than a step forward, in the terms of mobile technology, but it is certainly much better than their previous mobile os's.

You should probably change the title to:
"Windows 7 *Phone* sells out in U.K., do you believe that?"

Windows 7 has quite a large market share..

I don't know how many of you work out in the corporate world... but in the corporate world there are two types of phones

Blackberry phones
Windows Mobile phones

That is what companies buy for their employees because of the enterprise/server-side options available for integrating messaging and email into their MS Exchange systems (lets be honest... i'd say that 90% of companies out there run outlook and exchange).

Windows mobile 7 will have a built in business customer base... what Microsoft is trying to do is capture the regular consumer as well. The real money in the future will be with people using their phones as portals for data search, communication, entertainment, and even commerce.

Think back to 15 years ago. The one thing people never left their homes without were their keys and their wallet/purse.

Nowadays it is their keys, their wallet, and their cell phone. Everyone will have a mobile device. The companies who get the biggest part of that action will make gobs of money.

Windows Phone 7 is an excellent mobile OS. I have played with all the handsets they are releasing them on, and I can say that they are pretty awesome.

Their exchange/office/sharepoint integration is top notch. Very nicely done. This will surely eat into the blackberry market.

The UI is very cool, way ahead of the iPhone. Very clean, very streamlined and efficient. However, I am not sure if it will eat the iPhone's share though. Maybe after V2.

If it "multitasked" and was on verizon I would be jealous.

When these happen I think I might consider selling my Droid X and buying a nice WP7 phone if Verizon gets some nice ones.

1) I agree. Being platform neutral, I must say that what I've seen thus far is truly impressive.

2) I share the same likes that you do when it comes to Android. Initially a bit uncertain about what I'd seen prior to owning one, now I'm sold. I really like my iP4, yet Android keeps my interest peaked due to all that I can do to customize it, as well as being able to refresh it's look & feel at will.
 
I'll tell you right now that unless the iPhone is much different in 12 months than it is today, I won't be getting another one when my contract expires.

I really like my iPhone 3Gs, but I don't understand the fascination people have with iPhones. Same with the iPhone 4G.

Currently, the only benefit of an iPhone is the ease of syncing, and the only thing I really care about syncing is the music on my phone.
 
My old HTC-made Tytn with WM 5 OS was one of the best phones I ever had. It really opened up the world of what could be done on a phone.

Before that I had several different generations of Nokia Communicator mobiles (they opened to reveal a qwerty keyboard) but apart from the keyboard and better handling of large numbers of texts they weren't a great advance over the standard phone.

With WM5, which had the same relationship to Windows (for the time) as iOS does with OSX, MS showed they were capable of generating a step change in mobile phones.

The next step change was Apple with iOS. WM7 seems good, but will it be another step change? Dunno, but it's good to see competition for iOS.
 
Happy days. I bought MSFT shares in September at $24.43 betting on Windows Phone easily exceeding expectations. So far so good.

Not only do they have strong grip in the enterprise, Microsoft is doing cool things in the consumer space too with the XBox 360 and integrating some of that into the phone. XBox 360 is actually a better media centre than Apple TV in Europe due to content deals Microsoft has struck with the likes of Sky.
