Microsoft showed off a concept for Windows 8 in the Car, to potentially replace the SYNC they have now.

In the demo it showed there will be Car apps on the Marketplace, and users can pin their favourite apps onto their homescreen for use in the Car.

Thoughts?

I really hope cars don't go into this one ecosystem deal with Microsoft or Apple or Google. I hope that all the car companies go with a common software plugin that allows for any phone to connect via miracast (or something like it), that way any phone can be used with the entertainment system.

If a car is strictly iOS or Android or Windows, I will be less likely to buy it, unless I can have the car come without the preinstalled crapware. A2DP is all I need.

I couldn't agree more here!

I get the feeling this is how the future Windows Car will work with anyone that has something other than an American accent. (Even though I am American, I have apparently lived outside the U.S. long enough in my life to have an accent as Google Now and Siri both can't understand me some of the time.)

I have a similar accent to Hugh Grant, and Siri would nearly always mess up one word which would render my entire request useless. Google Now understands me most of the time, and my Xbox One is pretty good at understanding me. The only issue it would have is it would sometimes open Skype if I said "Xbox go to Skydrive" and vica versa, now its been renamed OneDrive hopefully that should end :D

Nice concept.

The current CarPlay UI is disgusting, an iOS 6-style one would not be flexible enough for different interors.
