Windows 8 RT/DESKTOP COMBO?

Okay, so I'm a college student right now. And I need a new computer for my classes. I'm thinking about spending maybe $1000 tops.

But I'm wondering if it would be a good combo to get a good Windows 8 desktop and possibly get the Surface RT to complement it? That way the SRT is something I can bring to school. But I'm not sure if that's a good combo vs just getting a laptop.

Any tips?

Sounds like a plan, but what exactly will you be using the tablet for? That will help dictate whether its a good fit, i.e., are the apps you want/need available.
