Windows Backup Solutions....

Ok, I need some help here. I want to write in my blog about backing up computers. I have a Mac, and plan on saying to backup with Time Machine and maybe SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner. My problem is, most people have Windows. I really don't need a backup solution on my Windows partition, since all that's on there is my browser history, and I haven't backed up Windows computers in years.

I remember using Retrospect, and it seemed like a great product. It did incremental backups and I think was also bootable (back then, it was backed up to CDs). I know there's a new version of Retrospect, but it's a bit expensive, compared to what's available for Macs.

What is everyone else using? I'm going to recommend using an external hard drive or two. Does Vista have anything built in to help with backups?

I use WinClone to copy an image of the BootCamp partition to the OSX partition and then using SuperDuper to make an image to an external drive is one solution. The SuperDuper image can be booted (OSX) and you can copy the image back to an internal drive. Then you can use BootCamp Assistant to establish a BootCamp partition and WinClone to restore Windows.

This process provides assurance that you can recover from a hard disk failure as more of a inconvenience then a disaster. However regular backups of your data files by one means or another is still a very good idea.

I use Alwaysync on the windows drive (to make rsync style incremental backups to a NAS) and once a month I make a fresh Winclone backup also.

If you dont need regulary backups of the windows file system then Winclone is probably the way to go.

Are there other programs out there? I'm looking for something that can backup without messing with the Mac side of things, so I can also use this on my Windows PC.
