Hi

Recently when i try to boot into Windows Xp pro on my iMac 2006, a dialog comes up on the windows partition saying "we are sorry for any inconvenience, but windows did not start successful" There are four options i can choose from saying "safe mode", "safe mode networking", "safe mode command prompt" and "start windows normally"

Ive seen this before and just need to choose "start windows normally" however the keyboard has stopped working on windows bootup! I cant choose any options an i have 30 seconds to choose before the computer restarts. Then the same message comes up then the cycle starts again.

How can i get my alliminium keyboard to select start windows normally. My mouse has power but my keyboard is dead. It works on the Mac OS.

Anyhelp, thanks in advance:)

PS i have installed the latest 2.1 drivers.

Hi,

[1] Applications > Utilities > Boot Camp Assistant

[2] Click continue

[3] Pick “Remove a Windows Partition” and click continue

[4] Click “Restore”

I find that gets rid of most Windows problems.

Seriously,
Try starting in safe mode first and seeing what happens?

If the computer is restarting after that screen and not booting into safe mode (the default) then it sounds like it's actually blue screening when it's booting. I would try unplugging any unnecessary devices and give that a shot. Otherwise I'd try booting off the Windows XP install CD and doing a repair.

I can't remember, but I think start normally might be the default option. I think you'll need another USB keyboard to make a selection. If safe mode is the default option, then it looks as though there's nothing you can do without any type of error code. You can try doing a repair install of Windows (leaves your programs and data intact). If that doesn't work, then a reformat is the only option.

If "start normally" is the default selection and it's using that option to boot into, use another keyboard to select safe mode. If you can get into safe mode, then maybe we can work with you there.

First of all thanks for all these posts guys!

If i go into the boot camp assistant and remove the windows partition then click restore will that delete everything that was on my Windows Partition?

I'm unsure i explained this properly, the message with 4 options comes up with no problems but i cant select any of them. Start windows normally is the default but it requires i press enter-and I cant. Then it just restarts and wants me to press enter again.

I thought about using the Windows XP disk and pressing repair, but it says "to boot from disk, press any key to continue" and i cant press any key, its doesn't recognize it!

Thanks for all the help any new ideas?

Yes. Don't do it yet. It was an attempt a humour (as in getting rid of windows is a way to get rid of your Windows problems :)). Should have been more clear.

I cant start in safe mode because I think i have to use some key commands which my keyboard won't respond to. If i click caps lock whiles windows is attempting to boot no light comes on, but I think my keyboard will work once I'm logged on, i don't know.

I also tried un plugging un used devices but that didnt work and I also moved the keyboard into differant USB ports, but that didnt work either.

You only need leopard to install boot camp if you do it after the expire date of the BETA though there are some loopholes. I managed to install the 2.1 drivers for windows XP even tough I'm on Tiger! :D

Any more suggestions?

Thanks
:)

Since I previously suggested this and I got no response from you, I'll try again.

TRY A DIFFERENT KEYBOARD

A non-Apple keyboard to be exact. I've read that people have run into problems in situations like this. The Apple Keyboard isn't a standard PC keyboard, and the default drivers that are used for detecting input from the keyboard isn't working properly. A standard keyboard will hopefully solve it.

Sorry The Flashing FI i did see that you wrote that and I was just wondering if there were any other ways of doing it than getting a different keyboard. This is because I will not be able to get a different keyboard for a while and that keyboard would be the old apple keyboard, this doesn't seem to have as many problems as the thin keyboard.

Thanks for the posts

I will write soon. Good luck on finding some new ideas whiles I Try and get another keyboard.

Hi,
I managed to get a Windows keyboard and it worked! I selected start windows normally...BUT THEN it tried to boot into it and i was prompted with the same message, just as before. So i tried "last know good Configuration" and that didn't work either. So I tried safe mode and that did work but didn't know how to repair the computer from in there.

Please can you tell me how to repair the computer from in safe mode so I can start windows normally.

Thanks loads

It Works!

I managed to get windows xp to work again!:)

I booted into safe mode with a differant keyboard and went to:

"Start"
"All Programs"
"accessories"
"system Tools"
"System Restore"

And I restored the Operating System back to the begging of the month and it booted with most of my recent apps there!!

Thanks for the help along the way;)
