I've recently installed Windows XP 32-bit onto my Alu MacBook but in 'System Properties' it oly says i have 1.72 GB's of RAM, and in 'Task Manager' it says i only have a total of 1.8 GB's of Physical memory.

So how come i've lost 200 - 300 MB's of RAM?

And yes, OS X reports the correct amount in 'About this Mac'

It's only 20-30 MBs, not 200-300. Probably different ways of counting bytes causes the difference.

I also have 2.00 GB of ram but on my Windows XP SP3, it only registers as 1.98 GB. You are not alone.

But trust me, this doesn't affect performance as much (not for me anyways). Try to just brush it off.

Here is a quick quote I found on an Apple Discussion Page:

It's a combination of a limitation of the emulated Apple BIOS that runs on top of the UEFI and a limitation of Windows.

There is no way to allow 32 bit Windows to see any more than 1.98GB of RAM, trust me, I tried for a long time to get it to work.

The only way to sort it is run XP x64 or Vista x64, and then it will see all of the ram. However, this will give you problems in the lack of drivers available for the hardware, as the official Apple drivers only support 32 bit Windows.

Hope that answered your question!

Have fun in bootcamp
