windows hidden share equivilent?

Hi all. I'm new to mac networking and wondered if there is a windows c$ equivalent? Can I connect to a remote computer's HDD at the root level and manipulate the folder structure as I can on a Windows network?

Windows creates a hidden share on the drive root on installation and I wondered if this was true on OS X?

I use SSH (turn on Remote Login in the Sharing preference pane) and CyberDuck.

Once you turn on Remote Login on the remote PC, you can open up Cyberduck on your machine, and type "sftp://username@remotepcIP" and it will ask you to log in, and you will have access to files on that machine.

SFTP is fully encrypted, which makes it more secure than Samba (Windows file sharing).

I have no idea why mikes63737 is going all around Job's barn in Post No. 2. You don't need extra applications. You don't need Secure FTP. For commandline access, just login from the Terminal. SSH is the default. For GUI access, the Connect to Server... works fine. In either event, you need credentials on the remote computer.
