Windows Internet on XP - Use macs?

Hi,

First of all below is a synopsis of what i have done so far, highlighted in red is what i am trying to achieve so if you can't be bothered to read it all just read the bit in red

I finally got my bootcamp windows running,


I used a windows 95full disk and a windows xp sp1 upgrade disk at the same time via usb cd drive.

This installed fine, then i upgraded to sp2 by installing the sp2 disk and then editing a hkey string so that i didn't get the 4kb error message (common on bootcamp upgrading).


So currently i am running sp2 and it seems to work fine,

but.
No internet, i installed the leopard mac osx disk while running windows and clicked run setup.

It ran the setup installing some drivers then crashed with fatal error, then windows did some memory dumping and i tried the whole thing again -same error just got a bit further.

I did the same thing and eventually installed everything except 'Broadcom 802.1 internet wireless card' - that crashes windows every time.

I tried the trick of running device manager and searching manually - it still crashes windows.

I was wondering is this stopping me connecting to the internet?

I connect to the internet wireless using various apple signal boosters and a airport hub. (base)

On windows i have no option to connect wirelessly and i was wondering is there anyway to use the built in wireless card on the mac without having to install a windows card, or is there a way to share the macs internet

Found this solution, although when i run windows i have no option to set up a wireless network.

Windows needs those Broadcom drivers to access the wireless card, so you can connect to your router which connects to the internet.
As you use BootCamp for using Windows, there is no way to use Mac OS X for accessing the internet at the same time.

Have you tried finding the Broadcom drivers somewhere else than the Leopard DVD, the internet for example (via Mac OS X)?

And is there no way for to install Windows without going the Win95 route?

And you're saying that you "finally" got Windows via BootCamp working? With a Windows 95 install?! You couldn't get a clean XP install to work?

No the solution dosen't work for me, although a ethernet cable did (currently doing without wireless)

Why do you need Windows? I'm wondering if maybe you should just purchase an OEM copy of XP from an online merchant like NewEgg.com, and then use that to do a clean install of Windows XP. Either that or download Windows 7 RC 1 and use that until Windows 7 licences are available. Or just get a copy of Vista Home and use the free coupon to upgrade to 7 when it comes out.

If the wireless drivers are crashing your system, then there's something wrong with your installation... there's really no way to use the wireless card in Windows without having drivers for it installed and active. That's just the way it works. There's no way in OS X to use the wireless card without its drivers, either. Or in Linux or any other operating system....
