Windows, iPhone 3G ALREADY on 3.1. Can I jailbreak it?

Ok So I have searched and while I have found threads they have been confusing as crap and it's mostly because of your 3Gs folks. Dang apple for making it so hard for you guys to upgrade cause now it seems someone like me can't jailbreak. So I'm going to ask this really simple stupid so hopefully I can find the answer I have been looking for (even if it's not the exact answer I want to hear lol)

Ok So I have jailbroken before and did so on 3.0.1 I was stupid and upgraded to 3.1 (damn upgrade fever wont do that again) Cause I wanted iTunes rearranging in iTunes 9 etc. I wont do that again.

I have a new iPhone (well a refurb) had to swap out at an Apple store due to a non related Apple Care situation. So I now have an iPhone 3G 8GB that as far as Apple is concerned hasn't been jailbroken (since they practically rebuild them)

It is on 3.1. I want to jailbreak it (I want cydia, 3G unrestrictor and more importantly Google voice back on my iPhone.

I am on Windows and Just want a jailbroken 3.1 device. 1) am I able to do that now? And 2) if so can someone PLEASE show me where I can find info to do exactly that. I have found stuff but it's so muddled with 3gs jailbreak stuff I don't want to screw something up etc.

I'm NOT looking to unlock I just want to jailbreak my 3.1 iPhone 3G to a 3.1 iPhone with the jailbreak.

You can always downgrade a 3G to 3.0 or 3.0.1. Since you went to 3.1, for now you cannot unlock.

Go to iClarified and get Windows tutorial for JB a 3G to 3.0.

You will be using redsn0w.

I will recommend you first restore to official Apple 3.0 first, choose set up as new phone to get rid of all the JB gremlins. Then do the redsn0w JB to 3.0.

I always restore to official Apple Firmware (except 3.1 because of bb update) when I re-JB just to clean out all the JB weird leftover gremlins.

I'm in exactly the same boat. I see there are a few vids on YouTube, suggesting that this can be done with a custom 3.1 firmware, but they don't say what firmware state(number and wether jailbroken or not) you need to be on before restoring to the custom firmware.

Go to iClarified and get Windows tutorial for JB a 3G to 3.0.

See if you can downgrade to 3.0 or 3.0.1 firmware. If you can then you can jailbreak your iphone, and if you want to have 3.1 firmware you'll have to upgrade from a jailbroken 3.0 to a custom jailbroken 3.1 firmware.

And herein lies the problem.

It seems it would be so simple to create a Windows app that will patch the official 3.1 ipsw to a jailbroken 3.1 ipsw, and yet, that app hasn't been created.

I wish the developers would make one! I realize all their hard work seems to go unnoticed, but I'm appreciative

I was able to downgrade to 3.0.1 Thank you Quickpwn for helping my phone get out of recovery mode after the install haha!

Sucks cause I couldn't restore from backup. But I'm off 3.1 and back onto a jailbroken iphone.

I want to install the 3.1 custom files that are floating around but at the same time you never know what could happen. I guess I will just sit tight with 3.0.1 and hope that the Dev team or anyone working with them can put out something for us windows users to easily upgrade and jailbreak to 3.1. I miss my app arrangement in iTunes 9 I know their priority right now is to get 3Gs users completly unlocked with 3.1
