If this isn't the right forum for it, I apologize. I'm a Mac guy who uses a Windows laptop at work. With working from home, things have been pretty good, but recently I've been having some audio issues on Webex calls, so I've been digging through my settings to see if there's anything I can fix.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T460. I'm connecting to my Airport Time Capsule (I'm not sure of the exact model, but it's the last one offered). All of my Macs, etc connect to the Airport at 802.11ac. My Lenovo will initially connect at 802.11ac (on the 5Ghz network), but then within a minute or so, will drop down to 802.11g on the 2.4 Ghz network. The laptop is sitting about 5 feet from the Airport and there are no obstructions between the two.

I've googled that scenario every way I can think of, but can't find any reason why this is happening.

Does anyone who knows more about this stuff than I do, have any ideas what might be happening?

Thanks in advance,

Give the 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz different SSIDwi. Really, 802.11AC devices should only be connecting to 5 Ghz. Leave 2.4Ghz for everything else. If it's dropping to 802.11g. I expect you have some old 802.11g device connecting to the network.

I can only assume the Lenovo is connecting to the strongest signal not necessarily the fastest.

If they already have different names delete the 2.4Ghz from your list of WiFi networks or set the 5Ghz to a higher priority.

Thank you! I didn't realize that having one slower device on the network would knock the other devices down to that speed. I switched my work computer over to my guest network, which doesn't have any devices on it and the computer has stayed at 802.11ac since then. I appreciate the help!
