"Windows - life without walls" is an oxymoron anyway. Usually you need a wall to put window in

I thought someone's sig on MacRumors was pretty funny...

"Who needs gates or windows if you don't have fences or walls?"

But yeah... I really wish they would attack the PC ads more directly, if only for the humor. But in reality I think they're above that. Possibly.

It usually has to be raining before someone put's a Mac on. Haa haaa - I'm so damn funny.

Not.

Seriously guys - is this the best you've got?

Apple have spent years just trying to criticise Windows, much of the time by telling outright lies, and singularly failing to actually extoll the virtues of their own products.

In the computer world, walls are what prevents the baddies from getting in. Thus, since Windows has no walls, the baddies have free reign on whats inside (aka your data).

Finally they admit it.

I expect we can all gather what Microsoft is trying to say here. At least IMO:

Openly, that they're a hip brand, down with the kids of today.

Subtly, that Mac OS X is too locked down and generally you can only do Task A 1 or 2 ways. As opposed to the 10 ways to accomplish Task A on a Windows box.

Microsoft thinks its better because you can create a GUI application in Visual basic to do just about anything, short of curing cancer, in a matter of minutes. However because there are 50,000,000 ways of doing something, there are also 50,000,000 potential exploits.

True, but it that necessarily wrong, offering choice (ignore exploits)?

Fugly UI & Vista aside, making it easier for people to put out applications isn't such a bad thing. One thing I like very much about Apple is their Human Interface Guide, it's been around forever and really helps control variations in apps so the UI feels similar no matter what application you're using.

In the end though, Microsoft has had a serious of really bad marketing in the last 5 years or so. Such a lumbering giant is hard to steer, so they're just trying to up their "cool" quotient.
