I'm running 10.3 and XP sp2, and have been trying to get them to see each other all day. I can get into the windows box no problem from my mac, all my shared files on my windows machine are easily accessible on my mac.

But I can't get into my mac from my PC. I've turned on windows file sharing, and when I go to log into the mac's ip address (found under the windows sharing menu) in xp, im prompted with a screen asking for my user name and pass word, i enter my macs info, but then i get an error message saying that the folder is not accessible. My mac also doesnt show up in my windows work group, but i can connect to the workgroup on my mac. Anyone have any ideas about what might be causing this?

In your mac go into System Preferences/Sharing then check windows sharing. It will then prompt you to enable an account to access the mac. Then you use that user name and password to access your mac. That is how i understand it. I only ever connect to my windows box from my mac not the other way around so I don't have this option checked and have not tried it. Give it a try. If it does not work I am sure someone else here will be able to help you.

I actually just found a whole thread devoted to windows/mac networking. Check it out. There are multiple pages that are sure to help you. :)

Thanks for the replies.

I've been browsing that thread, and so far no dice. I've checked windows file sharing, and then ive entered that ip followed by "\(username)" but I always get a message saying "the network path was not found" after I enter my mac user name and pw into the XP dialogue box. I'm not sure whats up, I've read countless tutorials and the sharing works fine getting files off the pc, but I just cant get to my mac files.
