windows not geniune- bought from macmall

so i bought my macbook from macmall so they installed my windows vista and my parallels. so i did not set it all up. i think they screwed up because my vista worked fine for a while then after like a couple months this thing pops up and says that its not enuine which is smpossible b/c i bought it from macmall- i have the disk and the code thing.

i try typing in the code to prove its authencity and it gives me an error message. i try to activate online but it gives me the same error. the error code 0x80072EFD. any help would be much appreciate,

You can only try windows for 30 days, not "couple months".

You can always remove the "copycat" and enjoy your osx purely.

If it fails to connect online, it should give you the free phone number to call Microsoft and they should be able to solve the issue over the phone.

Parallels changes some things when you use it that may make Windows think it is being run on a different PC.

try running it through bootcamp. if the error still pops up, you are likely running a trial version.

Home Basic and Home Premium can't be run in virtualized environments, according to the EULA. (I'm unaware if this would lead to the error you received, however.)

I remember reading that too, but I just checked Vista's EULAs. For Home Basic and Home Premium, it still says:

You may not use the software installed on the licensed device within a virtual (or otherwise emulated) hardware system.

Heard on the radio today that Microsoft's verification servers are down and "they are working on it."

So you should be able to get yourself up and running properly in a few hours/days/months when they get the servers working again.

it is windows vista business; so i think that should not apply

Boot Camp is not really emulation/virtualisation.

Only the BIOS is emulated, but that is a standard feature of EFI.

I don't believe there was ever a technical restriction stopping you from running those versions in an emulator, you were just told not to.

True, but he's not using Boot Camp; he's using Parallels.

Vista supports EFI. You do not need Bootcamp to install directly onto an Intel Mac. Some people like Apple's hardware more than the OS and only have Vista running.

Im shocked, I always thought its the other way around...

unless you are talking about the external design, not the real stuff hidden inside, which, IMO, is, at least, no better than other PC parts.
