I understand that i do not need anti-virus while on the mac and if running windows there are virus possibiliites. If i do not connect to the internet while running windows, do i still need anti-virus. I also use an airport router.

Most things that affect Windows will not affect you Mac, so you can simply remove it and reinstall (or keep a ghosted image an replace the virus infested one with that one.

You can just prevent it from access the internet, or get a free/cheap anti-virus, like AVG Antivirus.

As long as you do not connect Windows to the internet, or insert infected files into the VM, you should be fine. For a good all round piece of protection, grab Avast! antivirus which includes anti-spyware, etc. and is free for home use.

While not connecting to the internet you can still technically get infected through files transferred from usb sticks, etc.

My rule of thumb is "when running windows have some sort of anti virus regardless of usage" You may get one through means you probably didn't think about so it's always good to have 'just in case'.

But I wouldn't go out and spend good cash on em. I'd look for cheap "run as needed" solutions like adaware and spybot.

I use AVG 8, the free version which is an anti-virus and anti-spyware package,

I also use ccleaner daily to get rid of lots of other rubbish.
