Hello,

If I install windows on M1 Max, do you think it would perform as expected compared to i9 11900f like the below estimation?
https://nanoreview.net/en/cpu-compare/intel-core-i9-11900f-vs-apple-m1-max

As I've read that M1 Max's GPU performances are similar to 1080ti, would that work as expected to that compare with windows on M1 Max?

Also window performance for M1: Parallels’ official numbers are impressive. They say M1 Macs use 250% less energy than a 2020 Intel MacBook Air, and get up to 60% better DirectX 11 performance than an Intel MacBook Pro. And running Windows on an M1 Mac? Thirty-percent faster than running it on a Core i9 Intel MacBook Pro. https://www.lifewire.com/your-m1-mac-can-run-windows-faster-than-a-pc-5179652

I really would like to take this advantage of powerful "mobile" hardware and the software(Unity Game Engine) that I am trying to use on M1 Max does not have an official version of native (only in beta and unstable) for the M series.

Thank you,

You CAN try windows with some method, but don't expect too much from it, and I personally discourage depending it too much on Apple Silicon Macs. Windows is only usable in VM at the moment and Windows on Arm itself, heavily relies on x86 emulation to be useful. We do not have native graphics driver but a para-virtualized one in the VM. All of above are performance penalties of some kind and the latter two are actually having quite huge impact on intensive workloads. I even think the in beta and unstable version of Unity engine could run better than it is in the Windows VM.

Thanks for the insight. I guess I can't really use it for production for a game that will be released next year then!

the question is, why?
because if the performance is there, that means we can have mac and win on a single laptop, legally, which means 1 laptop travels with us.. which means easier life and less cost in total.
Then we can use win-only software along with mac-only software.. and do our work from 1 system.

There is currently no way to legally run Windows on an Apple Silicon Mac.

You should probably run Unity on OSX through Rosetta on a new MBP until the native version is out of Beta.

Stargate Command
Epic (Unreal) & Apple having a spat; Unity integrating a bunch of Weta Digital tools in the future, possibility of an Apple silicon / Metal optimized variant...?
