Hello everyone, I have an imac 3.08 and will be installing WinXP for gaming and CAD applications such as AUtocad and CATIA v5. I would like to know what size should be my partition. I havent played much of the newer games so I'm not used to the new game size. I heard Crysis takes 10gb for example

I am thinking that 150gb would be more than enough...

thx!

I got a 80gb drive for Windows thought it would be grand – now I see AoC is a 30gb install!

But yeah you should be good with 150gb – I'm guessing both the apps you mention will be <20gb?

yea, under 20gb each, catia can get pretty big with all modules.

if I eventually need more, ill just reinstall my stuff and do a fresh formatting

I made mine 32 gigs (though I wish I had made it larger) just for games. It's definitely managable... i just uninstall things I'm not using. Right now I have Windows XP on it with Bioshock, Battlefield 2142 (and the expansion), Team Fortress 2, and the Sins of a Solar Empire Demo. I've also got a few other things on their (like Amazon Unbox cause it doesn't support OS X).

That still gives me about 6 gigs left over. When I get Mass Effect I'll uninstall BioShock and I should have plenty of room again. If I had to do it all over again, I'd probably make my partition closer to 50 gigs though.

I have a 250GB HD (160GB External), I gave Windows Vista 72GB leaving 160GB for Mac (along with the other 160GB external - very happy with that.

If I were you I'd go with 160GB instead of 150GB. You'll really have around 155GB after formatting (I believe).

thank you everyone for the help :)

I'll be going for 160gb :) I'm not quite sure I'll be able to fill that, but we never know, maybe next year some games will take 3-4 DVDs to install!

10 GB is nothing. My installation of UT 2004 (with many maps and mods installed) is closer to 20 GB :)

My XP partition is 32gb but I bought myself a little 60gb* external drive (mini one, for portability and no need for a power lead). It's getting full now what with my Steam collection - GTA series, Orange Box, id super pack, Unreal collection. Kinda wish I saved up for a bigger drive.

But regardless that is always the way. Theres always a point where you wished you had more storage space.

* Actually I can't remember the size. It might even be 30gb!

super late edit: Yea I'm only using 15gb of my internal 32gb for Windows XP, Painter, Photoshop CS and MMF2. As well as my docs of course. It's all I need.

I have 250Gb. of my 750 dedicated to Windoze. I have LOTS of stuff installed and I still have lots of room.
Just as an aside, as I get used to OSX, I find I boot to XP less and less anyway....:p

Rich
