10GB is plenty for me. I run Office and a few tiny apps and I still have about 4GB free.

Vista takes about 9GB for the Ultimate version I believe, I'd say you want 20Gb for Vista to have comfortable room for some software.

If you were to install XP, i'd say 10-15Gb. I have a 5Gb partition for it in Parallels, and it's only enough for XP Pro, Office 2007 and Windows Live Messenger.

What all do you want to put on it?
I started with a 20 GB partition for Vista but then added Dev Studio 2005, the Vista SDK and WDK. Those, along with some projects left me constantly deleting temp files and getting rid of old restore points.

I finally went through a lot of trouble to create a bigger Vista partition when I needed to test one of my projects with games running under vista.

So, try to guess what you'll want to put on it before settling on a size.

I use my bootcamp partition mainly for playing games, so I gave it 70 GB. I hate deleting games I haven't finished yet.

My iMac has a 500 GB drive though, so no that big a loss. :D

windows XP clean install need ~1.5G space.

be sure to turn off auto restore, which eats enormous disk space with times goes by.

Enjoying my newly delivered refurbed Blackbook here...

I'm going out after work to get myself a 320 Gig drive and am putting a Windows partition on it. Now I don't have to carry my iBook G4 and Compaq Presario Notebook around!

What is a good size for:

Windows Vista Basic
Office 2003 (soon to be Office 2007) full install
A bunch of older games, such as Diablo II, Halo, Unreal 2003, etc.

What is a minimum Vista install?

I do a lot of music editing and then render them into MP3 files after I'm done working on them and save them. I used only 30GB os space. I guess it depends on what you'd be using windows for.

I put Vista on with a 22gb partition. I've got a few smaller programs on it and then Office 07 which leaves me about 9gb left on the disk. You can always increase or decrease the size of the partition later on.
