What's the state of windows phones on verizon? For an extended time, VZW didn't carry any windows phones. I see they now have a couple of models, how does that compare to ATT

That is Nokia Lumia Icon and Lumia 928 vs Lumia 920 and Lumia 925?

It seems they (VZW) seem to have an inferior model and selection of windows phones. Is that a fair statement?

Actually the Icon seems to be a decent phone

The Icon is indeed a fab handset. The camera is excellent, build quality is very high and performance based on my 1520 which shares same specifications other than screen size - has been great.

It will likely be the basis / same device as the to be announced Lumia 930.

Of all the devices Verizon offer regarding WP8 = the Icon is the best they offer and a great device in general.

:)

Thanks,

call me crazy but for some reason I'm kind of looking for a change of pace and I'm thinking of switching platforms and windows has suddenly percolated to the top of my list.

I'm going to do more research, but this thread is the beginning, i.e., what's available

I'm enjoying mine and it is a nice change and the update that coming with 8.1 shortly will make the device a lot more friendly in regards to features we have grown accustomed to with android and iOS devices.

There is still a lack of fresh app content compared to iOs and android - but if you can get over that (many will, many will not) then it's probably the best time to try a WP device as it finally feels like it's (the platform) maturing.

That's the rub. My needs are rather humble. Give me a solitaire game and I'm happy but I have two kids who uses my iPhone and my wife's. Changing platforms may upset that apple cart so to speak.

I may pop over to my local VZW store and play with one and see if they can offer any incentives

Happy with the switch

I had been on iPhone since iPhone 1 and switched to WP (Lumia 1520) just for the heck of it at Xmas.

I use Waze, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn the majority of the time, so I'm covered. Any others (like my local bank) can easily be saved to the home screen as a tile through Explorer so I have access to the full website.

Fir me it was worth it just for the change of pace...love the look and function of the UI and the hardware is top notch.

The Icon is the flagship phone (only on Verizon), but its equivalent was literally just announced. It is the Lumia 930 and it will be launched worldwide.

Microsoft also just announced 8.1 update for Windows Phone. We now have Swype keyboard, notification center with customizable phone function toggles, separate volume adjustments for phone notifications and media, Cortana looks pretty good as a virtual assistant and Google Now customizable information, new camera app with a ton of new features, but most important is IE11! A lot of features and capabilities added.

The only thing that that doused me with cold water is that I'll be going to DisneyWorld later this year and its very helpful to use their mobile app called My Disney Experience. So far its only out for iOS and Android.

I was going to visit my local VZW store today to play with it, but that was a bit of bad news I discovered last night. :(

I understand as I previously mentioned apps is the achilles heal but from my browsing the windows app store, things have improved markedly since I last looked there

That rear camera looks so big - I don't know.

I will say I'm liking the idea of a WP phone more and more. Though I may miss iCloud features like Find my Friends (but I still have an iPad so that still works).

Since I am deeply enmeshed within the apple ecosystem, I need to vett out the whole purchase a little more in-depth. Apple really has a great thing going with its OSX, iCloud and iOS integration.

The "Garden" state
I would go for the Icon. The 928 became a bit of an orphan when it came to cases and 928-specific accessories. And my 928 had the same hardware bug many 928s had, where the earpiece kept dying (so you had to wander around using speakerphone like a reality star on bravo).

The Icon was launched with a lot more accessory and 3rd party support, and I can't help but think the logic was this: release the 928 to test the waters of a high end Lumia on Verizon, then release a truly good phone (the Icon) the next round.

OP, you are in the same boat as me.

I started with iPhones and loved them and everything else I have is Apple (AppleTV,Mac,ipad) except my phone.
I then found Android with the S3 and actually really liked it.
Currently have the Note 3 and absolutely love how fast it is and the screen is the best in the business IMO.

Now, with my technology ADD(probably shared by others here:)) I am contemplating the new Windows phone. Which one that is,I dont know but the people here have been helpful in identifying which are the newest and "best" out there now.

its easy with Apple and Android as its the iphone or S5 or Note or some other recognizable phone.

For Windows phone it seems there are a million Lumias and #s that I have zero clue which is the newest and keeping track of versions.

I will be keeping an eye on this and also which ones come to ATT as I am due for my Next upgrade in October with ATT.

I went to my local VZW store only to find they only had a single WP phone (the HTC model) I'm very disappointed. I wanted to see how it worked face to face.

I think there's a corporate VZW store in a mall close to me, so I'll see about going there this coming weekend.

This is a struggle I've been somewhat having.

I'm planning on moving to the Moto X, but I'm having a hard time leaving the Apple ecosystem. Mostly my issue is giving up iMessage.

iMessage is a nice app that I use, I'm hoping the larger size phone will make up for it, terms of typing. I use the Message app on OSX quite often.

I'm also thinking of trying the phone for 14 days and if its not up to snuff, I'll return it
