Thinking about getting a windows phone. What are your guys thoughts?

DO NOT GET ONE NOW. All the current Windows Phones (Lumia 900, etc) will not receive future updates. This includes Windows Phone 8. Wait a few more months and get a phone with Windows Phone 8 if you want that.

Love it. I have 2, and my girlfriend is only keeping her iPhone because one of her nursing apps isn't on WP yet.

That's just wrong. I can't disagree, buying one now is a bad move. Wait until mid-September, but ALL windows phone 7 devices will be getting the 7.8 update, and even if your carrier (AT&T ) blocks it, you can download it directly from Microsoft.

Here's my thoughts, not to be interpreted as suggestions for you.

Apples driving me away from my much loved iOS simply because they refuse to make a small increase in the size of the phone to accomodate what has become standard size displays in most smartphones.

Deeply invested in iOS apps & the like, I too had the same concern you do. Then I changed my mind thinking yes, I do have an iOS investment, yet I've gotten my money's worth & I don't want to attempt to have a mirror image of my Apps on a fresh new platform anyway.

I want _some_ of the essential ones, the rest can be unique to Windows Phone. For example their will be Dropbox, Evernote and others. Then for those that don't port to Windows Phone right away, I'm sure there will be suitable alternatives.

So that's my plan. Buy a nice Windows Phone, use it, learn something fresh & new in the process.

Now I'm in a great position. If I really like WP I'll migrate to it completely, if Apple wakes up next year or the following & includes a modern display I will return, or I may find the SGS III I'm currently enjoying to continue to be the favorite it is today.

There's nothing like choices.

And as much as I hate Microsoft I might just bite the bullet. I will for sure at least wait until the announcement of what ever the next iPhone to see what it will have and not have to make a better decision. Just wanted to get peoples opinions.

A couple of my fellow engineers at work, have this exact model. The build quality is truly impressive.

Every bit as nice as any smartphone I've had (and I'm an addict with many...lol)

The display is gorgeous, the color balance, contrast and dept is impressive.

There's a lot to like about this phone.

However the one downside is that it will not get Windows 8. Unless this changes, it's the reason I am avoiding it.

Despite the recent bashing Nokia has taken, they still know how to build very nice phones, they simply need to get back on track. They seem to be well on their way to doing this now.

The new models with Windows 8 that are about to be released, are what I am waiting for.
