Windows problem since updating to OSX 10.4.9...

Since I updated yesterday, every time I reboot into windows I get a BSOD. Might not be directly related, & could just be a coincidence, but it happened immediately after the update was finished.

The Windows error report is suggesting there is a problem with my Display Driver and/or Hardware Acceleration. In the first case, it recommends updating the driver (tried it... no update available). In the second, it recommends turning hardware acceleration OFF!

For what its worth, I'm using a 2.33 C2D MBP with Boot Camp... & I didn't pay all that money for a top-end laptop so I can cripple the graphics card.

Any suggestions? Would re-installing the boot camp drivers be a good place to start?

For what it's worth, I don't have that problem on either of my macs, one with Windows XP and one with Vista.

I would indeed try reinstalling the Bootcamp drivers first, if possible.

Try booting into safe mode. Press F8 as soon as you select windows to load. It should bring you to a menu with boot options. Select the option that is enable vga mode. Try to work with the graphics driver in there(reinstall). Otherwise when you get to the safe mode boot options select the "load last known good configuration". If something did change it will load to the state of the last good log in attempt.

Maybe these ideas will lead to something.

I have the same issue. Just started happening today. Logged out of my Vista install and BSOD. restarted and all seemed ok...never had a problem but seems to blow since the 10.4.9 install.

A quick update...

re-installed the bootcamp drivers, then re-started & now the problem seems to have got worse!

Before re-installation, it would take maybe two or three attempts to boot into Windows. Once I was in, it was stable.

But now, EVERY time Windows restarts when I get a BSOD, followed by a few invalid entries when going through the file verification dialogue. The invalid files it finds seems to vary... can't really see any pattern to it. Could this all be pointing towards a dead drive?

I'll have a go booting into safe mode... fingers crossed.

Windows is screwed. Get rid of your parition in bootcamp. Repair your permissions, and then start over again.

Have you tried running scan disk or check disk?

What you could do (short of wiping your XP install and starting again), is stick in your XP cd and let reinstall over itself. This is not an ideal solution but in most cases it will fix the problem and save all your program settings.

Think I'll take your advice, though & try re-installing over the Windows installation first.

Try ghost. BTW there are lots of other ways to fix windows partitions. This isn't the best site to get that kind of information as people here are Mac Heads and don't have more knowledge on the windows side of thing. Just like i ask stupidly obvious questions about Mac OSX, i see a lot of people asking stupidly obvious questions about windows here...

When you boot the windows cd. It will ask you if you want to repair the installation. Use this option as it will not get rid of any of your applications. It only rewrites the system and config files. By the way. Unless apple specifically is messing with the firmware or the windows partition itself in the latest update, I can not for the life of me figure out how the update would have caused this problem. Did you change anything else on the windows partition at all?

Tried repairing the installation, but it got stuck halfway through.

Gonna bit the bullet & go for a clean install. Pain in the ass, but what can you do?

Anyway, apologies if this thread has been too windows-oriented. The problem ay not have been related to the OSX update, but it seemed to happen & get progressively worse after it.

Right, next problem...

When starting the bootcamp assistant, OSX tells me it can't partition the drive because verification failed.

When I open up the Disk Utility, the repair disk option is grayed out. I can repair & repair disk permissions ok. If I verify the disk, I get an error.

Is the hard drive on its way out?

It's happening to me too

I am really ticked off with Apple right now. I also did the OSX update last night and now I cannot access my Windows -- BSOD, etc. I better be able to fix the problem otherwise I'm going to be forced to buy a PC today because there is a vital piece of software that I need in order to do my job that can only run under XP.

So...

Repaired the disk, re-partitioned using bootcamp & completely re-installed my Windows installation & all applications.

Everything seems to be back to normal. Think I'll run out tomorrow & pick up a copy of Ghost to save me from doing this again... gonna be burning the midnight oil to catch up on the work that was supposed to be done today!

10.4.9 killing me too

last night I updated and restarted and it restarted in windows. Now I can't even get OSX to boot. It boots windows no matter what I select or don't select. any ideas?
