Windows Serial Codes

No, I am not looking for free ones . I was just wondering. Are the serial codes required for install specific to each CD? I have an old XP cd with a serial key but it doesn't have SP2 and I can't slipstream it.... Could I possibly borrow a friend's install disk with SP2 and use my serial key?

They're not specific to a disc. As long as you yourself own a legitimate key, you can use anyone's disc. Well, of the same version of Windows.

Not that OEM keys don't work with retail discs (usually) or even discs from other manufacturers. So, for example, the code from the copy that ships with a Dell normally won't work with an HP disc.

I'm curious. What can't you slipstream SP2 into your CD?
