Windows Server 2008 R2 and iTunes file server

Hi guys, so I set up a nice little server with iTunes and my library.

One issue I have come across was that home sharing works ok if I have all my devices and the server iTunes logged in, however the regular old library doesn't show up on devices that do not have my login and password.

I would like others to listen to my iTunes library when they come to my home.

I looked through the firewall settings, Windows settings and nothing works.

If home sharing works, shouldn't the old sharing work as well (with a limit of 5 computers)? Yes, I have sharing enabled.

Also anyway to force Apple Tv not to use home sharing passwords when I want to watch my servers iTunes library?

"Home Sharing enables you to stream or transfer music, movies, TV shows, apps, and more among up to five authorized computers in your household. To do so, you will need to Turn on Home Sharing on each computer using the same Apple ID."

Yes, I know that. However, home sharing requires an ID, but the old way of doing it does not. Anyone with iTunes can just enter a password and get onboard the library.

However, iOS devices need a HomeSharing password.

AFAIK, home sharing redefined the way an iTunes library is shared along with the same Apple ID restriction. I'm not aware any "old ways" of sharing were grandfathered in.

Maybe someone else knows different.

Ther should be a setting to share your library thats seperate from home sharing. They can play but not transfer.

It's under iTunes..Preferences...Sharing. That allows people to stream. "Home Sharing" is for transferring data between devices and is locked down by Apple ID (understandably of course)

I've been looking for such an option but to no avail. I don't really care about transferring, I just want my home visitors to get on my library and enjoy some of my local music without a login/password.

So far, Apple TV sees it, my MacBook Pro and Mac Pro see it without homesharing, but not the iOS devices (We have 5 of them at home).

Go to the iTunes menu, then Preferences.

Click the sharing button on the top. Check the box "Share my library on my local network". In the same pane, you can also set a password for sharing.

Reviewing, I see that you said that once in your initial post. I must have missed it.

You likely have an issue with the Windows Firewall. Try disabling the firewall by configuring a rule that allows all traffic to pass.

Tried that as well.

I have libraries shared from my Mac Pro and MBP and every computer in the house sees it, except iOS devices.

Am I hallucinating in thinking that my iPhone used to be able to see the libraries without Home Sharing in iOS 4.3?
