I would like to create a simple popup app for my macbook like the old Windows Sidekick program with a hotkey. Is there an app out there now like this or is there some open source or other development software I can play with to do this?

Whoah! Sidekick! Don't know of any and I guess the dock does more but thanks for the memory of the good ol' days when Norton Utilities was actually written by Peter Norton and you could amaze people by copying stuff from one PC to another using Laplink.
