So, i was playing around with my sister's Asus S550CA. It is a touch display though the resolution is outdated.

Here's few things i observed.

The metro interface is very smooth and touch friendly. I played some card games and playing touch games on a 15.6 inch screen seemed really great. Also, the full desktop mode is functioning well due to i5 processor.

I realized how having the power of a desktop os + touch interface is really a boon as compared to a touch only device. One moment im playing touch solitaire, next moment i can hook up a gamepad and go on a quest in skyrim. I was thinking of buying an ipad 5, but now thinking to save some more and buy a nice detachable windows hybrid. I think microsoft should correct whatever the flaws people observed in Windows 8 in the next update( As for me, i dont get annoyed by small things). Also, i suspect prices will come down for future win 8 devices.

Already i seemed to like this lappy a lot and i wont be wrong in assuming that future windows hybrids will be more awesome. What do u guys feel?. I think a mid budget full hd 13 inch screen with good specs(i5+) would be a killer device .

I love my Latitude 10.

Amazingly functional for work (yes, having a full office suite does have its advantages, for me at least).

Even though mine is an Atom based one, to does perform spectacularly in Metro applications and Office 2013 is well optimised for it. The battery on the power sling Atom is surprisingly good too.

Windows 8 is very intuitive on a full touch interface, a far better experience than I have on my desktop which has changed my opinions of the OS a lot. Things should get better with 8.1 too which is great.

I'm not the biggest Microsoft fan, but, they have impressed me with Windows 8 on the tablet, failed surface sales or not.

I will stick to playing Skyrim on my desktop though, these low specs won't cut it at all.

If I didn't get a free Surface Pro from my work I would have probably either gotten one of these or waited for an updated haswell tablet for the better iGPU. The Pro runs a good chunk of my steam library at low-medium settings... which is fine for me.

According to reviews the HD 4000 can get around 50 FPS at 720p and low presets and around 35 fps at 900p and low presets on Skyrim. I would personally wait for an updated haswell tablet however. That XPS 18 with Haswell woulda been killer.

More power to you if you like it but the product is a train wreck. On the smartphone side too, many are saying Nokia should have gone with Android, the Lumina is a great device but Windows is ruining the party.

I really think Microsoft needs to dump the metro interface and make something more like android or ios. Performance wise they are there, windows phone and windows 8 have great performance, they are super smooth even on low end hardware, but navigating the ui and the limiting customizations really set it back.

Microsoft is horrible at selling things, that says very little about the future of Windows tablets in a world where there are companies who actually know how to sell things.

surprised by the amount of microsoft is.doomed.posts here. its not like microsoft.is thr only.manufacturer of windows 8 hybrids. other companies are coming up with better models.

and I really.don't.think microsoft is.going.anywhere. especially in corporate/budget desktop/gaming market, it is still unbeatable. its almost as if some people here want microsoft to fail.

You shouldn't be surprised, this is MacRumors. Anything that isn't from Apple will definitely be hated.

If it's any indication, If i were in the market for a tablet, a windows 8 tablet would be my #1 choice

For those of you saying the surface failed miserably - I disagree. They made 858 million in the first quarter. The 900 million dollar write down is for future sales based on the lowered price of $350. You understand? They built too many so they lowered the price taking a 900 million dollar hit. They still made $858 million dollars at full price in the first quarter.

Anyways
The OP is saying Window 8 on a tablet shows promise. He is right, on the right hardware it shines. They have substantially improved it with the 8.1 update. They already snagged 4.5% market share in their first quarter. To put that in perspective - apple has 28% percent.
