Windows to Mac Newbie . . .HELP!!!

OK I have taken the plunge. I just placed an order for a new MacBook. I am switching from a Dell PC. I also have a 20G ipod that is obviously formatted to windows. I have two questions:

1. How do I get my itunes music moved from my PC to my new Mac?

2. How do I re-format my ipod into a Mac format?

Start with the Apple guides http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/tutorial/ip_gettingstarted_t14.html This assumes you can use your iPod to do the transfer. You can also use an external HDD or network cable.

If you restore your iPod on the Mac it'll automatically get reformatted to HFS+. Note that at that point it'll become practically useless as a Hard Drive on Windows machines.

First, copy the music over a network, or just network the 2 computers. Then, plug the iPod into the mac, with music already loaded, and it should take you through the rest.

You can use a program like iPodRip to move the music that's currently on your iPod to your new Mac, and then restore the iPod in iTunes, which will re-format it to HFS+.

Another way to transfer music from your iPod to your new Mac is with Senuti:

It's free and very easy to use. If your entire music library is on your iPod, this is the way to go.

I'm not sure about how to keep your playlists and such, though.

No, but you only get to authorize 5 machines, so if you don't want your PC to be one of them, click on store in iTunes on your PC then deauthorize account.

I'm not so sure about that. From mac to mac yes, but as soon as he plugs his iPod in to his mac it will ask him to format it so he'll be able to use it on a mac. No?

No. Macs can read FAT32 just fine.

I connected my son's Windows formated iPod to my macbook, no problem!
All of my music i transfered from my pc to the mac with an ethernet connection, home network. Share the folder on the PC, start SMB (System preferences>Sharing.
