windows using bootcamp on external HDD?

i know its possible but does it work the same like you just hit control or apple or whatever button it is and it will still detect windows on the external hdd? because i got a macbook for school this year and just put a 1gb of ram and im thinking of getting an 80gb hdd instead of partitioning a 60gb hdd...im basically just wanting to play some windows games and use iworks to do projects..only think i need windows for is the games..

From what I heard it is hard but possible to boot windows through an external drive because when Windows starts up it turns on and off the USB drivers.

That can be gotten around, particularly on Macbooks.
