windows vista DISASTER!!! please help

Hello, I know my problem is PC related but I use this forum for my mac And I think is great plus I am really deperate I hope someone can help me please!!

I just bought a wonderful new desktop pc from dell with the WONDERFULL windows vista. unfortunatly it may be wonderfull but it doesn't support protools. therefore i have been trying for the past 6 hours to:

1: install windows XP (I have an original windows XP which I bought with another dell PC). that doesn't work beacause a window come up saying that the version of windows that i have already in my computer in newer and it cannot let me install windows XP. it also says look for solution on line.



2: I decided to reformat my hard disc with the w XP CD. I boot the computer from the CD drive but after is loaded a blu screen appear saying that windows cannot start/install/load because of an error. it says check for viruses or check that your newly installed hard drive has been properly configurated and terminated(???????)



3: I tryed drastinc measures with killdisk.com I burn a executale disc following all the instructions from the website and boot the computer with that disc. but that doesn't work either. the black computer stops with a starnge code and doesn't do nothing else. in the website they say that killdisc run with all the windows version including XP but they don't mention vista. maybe it is not made to overcome vista. i don't know.



ps: obviously I tryed to reboot with the windows vista cd. but that does't give me any option at all (format disc) a part from repair windows. it doesn't need repair it new untuched and it has never been connectet to internet so no viruses possible. it is just brand new from dell.

all what you said doesn't make sense at all.
1. you dont have to use killdisk to reformat the disk. and if you do, it doesn't have anything to do with Vista, XP, or even OSX or Linux because it doesn't run under any of those environments. so don't blame Vista.
2. when booting with a XP or Vista disk, you're given a list of drives in your computer, and you can choose to delete and then recreate and then do a clean install of the OS on it. again, it doesn't have anything to do with Vista being previously installed there because the installation application weren't run under that environment.

i'm 100% sure either your disk is damaged, or you were doing something wrong during installation process. i know you were confused some where because you said "it doesn't need repair it new untuched..." while you certainly did touched it (killdisk, install xp, reformat with xp cd... remember?)

so calm down, and tell us what exactly you did during the installation, and we might help you figure out where you went wrong.

Darn, you beat me to that line- I agree, I am so relieve right now that I don't have to deal with Vista type issues or any PC Windows type issues...I thought my problems tonight were bad until I read this post...good luck.

Sorry I can't help you- but I am glad I can't...cause if I could that mean I would have to be dealing with the hell otherwise known as Windows!

1. put your XP cd in the driver
2. restart computer

follow the on screen instructions. do a brand new installation, remember when the copy file process finished, windows will restart, at that time, try remove the disk.

don't panic. pop in XP CD - format drive c, and follow on screen instructions and install.

What the hell are you talking about? If you bought Windows Vista, or your computer came with it, why would you possibly want to go back to XP?

Your post doesn't make any sense, and you should probably have an IT professional help you if you've screwed up things that bad.

Clevin, chill out. A little levity to the situation was all that I was adding. And no, I was not trolling, rather stating my happiness about not having to deal with MS. I have to deal with it everyday at work.

Does your Dell come with Dell System Restore by Symantec?

This restores the computer to it's original factory configuration and is really easy to use. Just follow the instructions below.

Using Dell™ PC Restore by Symantec
NOTE: Dell PC Restore is not available in all countries.
Use Dell PC Restore by Symantec only as the last method to restore your operating system. PC Restore
restores your hard drive to the operating state it was in when you purchased the computer. Any programs or
files added since you received your computer—including data files—are permanently deleted from the hard

possible, back up all data before using PC Restore.

Yep, some people completely miss the humor in Windows users coming to a Mac site for help with their PC.

Sounds to me as though you should restore Vista to its original state, using your Dell-supplied discs.
Then you need to partition your hard drive - I don't know whether Vista has a disc partition utility, you'll have to find out.
If you can get that far, then install XP on the new partition, along with all the xp-only software you want.
Alternatively, get on to ProTools and find out if/when they will provide a Vista patch/upgrade or whatever.

i will try all you suggestion. when i say the computer is untached it is because none of the thongs i tryed worked, not even started to work and everything was installed already. but now i will try the dell restore system (thanks again).

i.) wouldn't the restore disk restore the system to vista, which you have been trying to get rid of??

ii.) well, with XP (or even win2k or 98), popping in the CD and follow the on screen instructions will install the OS...

don't know. i find it odd for a newbie to be asking windows tech questions on a mac forum. perhaps you'll find a solution at support.dell.com.

Two, the original poster posted in a Mac forum for using Windows on a Mac...not a Windows on a Dell fourm. So if anyone wants to get technical here we are not even supposed to be having this discussion...right?!?! So if you want to get technical then I am mad cause they posted on a Mac forum about a Dell problem

Anyway, I really don't have a problem with it as the poster is a mac user apparently. I hope they can get the answers they need- by the way, did we find out why the poster bought a Dell in the first place?

This whole post is a troll!

For God's sake, the person who started this thread it incompetent to run either a Windows or a Mac machine. They tried doing something, which they weren't able to coherently explain, and now their stuck. I'm sure they could pop in whatever media came with their PC and try again. That's no different to someone royally screwing up a mac.

I like both OS's - some for different things. Leave it at that. For the Windows fanboys, yes, the complexity/lack drivers for Vista is a bitch, and you need great hardware. For the mac fanboys, you'll have to accept the fact that some people like windows.

I said it before, and I'll say it again - I think Vista on my MacBook Pro is freaking awesome. This is the fastest hardware of any PC I'm using, and when you try to compare MacOS on this hardware compared to the problems with performance that someone might have upgrading their two year old desktop, that's not an apples to apples comparison.
