Hey Everyone,
I have had my Macbook sinch March 2009. I have enjoyed using Mac OS X, but I have been greatly missing Windows and all my programs that I am used to using. I just feel that everytime I go to Windows, I have wasted my money getting a Macbook as I would rather to ease of use and familiarity of using Windows. Therefore, I am planning on putting Windows on my Macbook just to use Windows so I can feel comfortable again, and I have been loving the Windows 7 RC. I didn't want to have to sell my laptop to get less than I payed for it, even though I have seen some nice Windows PC's that I would like now. Anyway. The point of my post is that I have been looking at Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 OEM versions in NewEgg http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116677CVF and I was wondering if it was legal to use an OEM even though I am not a Hardware manufactureer, I just wanted to make sure its legal as it is a lot cheaper than it would be at my local Staples. Also, have people been having any major issues with Vista on a Aluminum Macbook? I know battery life is terrible, but i'm hoping Bootcamp 3.0 is going to fix that.

Thanks for any replies.

EDIT : The reason I ask about the legalities is because of this disclaimer on the website "Disclaimer: Use of this OEM System Builder Channel software is subject to the terms of the Microsoft OEM System Builder License. This software is intended for pre-installation on a new personal computer for resale. This OEM System Builder Channel software requires the assembler to provide end user support for the Windows" Also, if this is not legal, would I be able to just get an Upgrade version and do the whole, install it twice and activate it the second time?

Arent the retail dvds around the same price if so just go for the retail, oems will install but there could be problems with the serial cause it would eventually want the serial from the machine. I'm pretty sure but, one person said this "nothing, you need the right hardware to run this", im not sure what they mean by that but, IMO id just go for the retail copy and play it safe. K now of your edit im really confused XD.

Yeah, I don't know exactly what the OEM means, I just seen that it was cheaper. Just wondering what it is. And I am in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. Have been really thinking about just going and getting a Windows computer, been missing Windows. I know Mac is good and all, just miss the things I'm used to and I don't like certain programs on the Mac as much as I did in Windows. *sigh

An OEM disk will install and work no problems. You just won't be able to move it to another computer since the license is one use only.

Some sellers require you to buy e.g. a hard drive and CPU with the OEM disk, but I don't think Newegg does.

But if I were you, and really needed a version of Windows, I'd download the free Windows 7 RC (you have another week to do so) and use that until it expires (June 1 2010, although it starts shutting down the computer every two hours from March)

I wouldn't touch Vista unless you paid me a lot of money.

Another vote for Windows 7.

If you haven't already bought Vista, don't bother. Wait for Windows 7 (releasing sometime in October I believe). It's lightyears better than XP or Vista, and drivers that worked in Vista will work in 7. If you can hold out for it you definitely should. Just don't want you to kick yourself later for not waiting.
