Hi,

I got a Windows Vista OEM version from one of my friends. Is it ok to install it in my SR-MBP using bootcamp ?

Thanks..!

Legally no because OEM licenses are for new computer builds. You didn't exactly build your mac, so it doesn't count.

Technically, there's no restriction stopping you.

Thanks guys..!

but I'm woring about whether it will harm to machine or not ..? Coz I read some articles saying some OEM versions change your BIOS. Is this true ?

naa its fine.
vista OEM working fine on my machine. dont worry about it

OEM versions don't change your BIOS...

Whatever article you found that in is ever so slightly flawed. ;)

Is there a way to protect your computer from frying? Does it warn you? What do you do if you fry with this software? Can you take it back? Is it worth the fear of risk?

Pls see this link
http://news.softpedia.com/news/Windows-Vista-OEM-Activation-Crack-via-BIOS-Patch-47693.shtml

It says "the crack will alter the motherboard's BIOS. Users will lose warranty, and risk killing their system completely by modifying the BIOS irremediably"

The crack creates a virtual software based BIOS. It doesn't affect your actual physical bios at all.

There is a crack that does this but no one uses it, it came out before the virtual bios crack.

Interestingly enough the crack they are talking about in the article is the one which creates the virtual bios. Just goes to show their level of tech knowledge!

So basically you're fine as long as you're using a legal version of Vista that you don't intend to crack.

If you do intend to crack it, then there's a chance of frying your computer.

Well more than likely you won't fry your computer.

Unfortunately your computer won't warn you before it fries itself. The good news is that you are more likely to get hit by lighting on a sunny cloudless day than fry your computer with the vista hack that is out there :)
