Just got a quick question, because, pathetically the world is still mostly run on windows, should i get vista or wait for Windows 7 for gaming. Any advantages to waiting? is 7 actually gonna be worth a *#&@? will it have any advantages in the gaming world? also, will i have any compatibility issues? Thanks for any advice/info answers.

windows 7 all the way. it has a smaller foot print and uses less resources so you should have better gaming performance not to mention it has less bugs and less problems then vista.

Vista has a performance issue with OpenGL programs while Aero is enabled. According to OpenGl.org, it is apparently a 10% trade off. While this may not sound like much, this is on average. Certain OpenGL games could see frequent FPS spiking (Quake 3 and Live for example) while Windows is fiddling with Aero in the background which is overly annoying.

This problem appears to have been resolved in Windows 7.

Just order windows vista on newegg, they offer a free upgrade to windows 7 when it comes out.

I wonder how seamless the Windows 7 upgrade will be from Vista? I'd really really like to avoid having to install from scratch if yaknowwhatimean.

Hello
Actually I am confuse between both Windows Vista and windows 7 both. Windows Vista's performance is good but according to me windows 7 is very good for gaming. I am also using it. Thank you very much friends for your different type of opinions.

Quick answer: Windows 7 Ultimate Edition, 64-Bit. It's so good, you will eventually consider giving up on OS X completely.

7 is MUCH better then Vista. I'd say Microsoft have finally come around this time. Although still not OSX.;)
If you're planning on using a PC for gaming, go with 7.

I use 7 for all my gaming needs on my MacBookPro. Works like a charm. It is a decent OS, I don't mind it that much. I prefer OS-X but I could see people liking 7 -- it really isn't another vista, thankfully. I think MS will do OK with it.

I'm temporarily using XP (granted not 7, but same dog, right) at work and I'm reminded of all the bad things that Windows does. I'm very doubtful that a person used to the overall quality of OS X would seriously consider such a move.

How about running older games?

I have sliced one of my Mac Pro's HDs in two (1 partition for XP, 1 for Vista 64 bits).
Vista for the newer games, but I ran into all sorts of issues running older games which I still love playing...
Therefore an installation of XP for those older ones was necessary.

Anyone know how good Win 7 (64 bits) is running older stuff (like NFS 4 and 5, Richard Burns rally, Far Cry etc.).

I have read about Win XP compatibility mode, so could that help "classic gaming'?

Cheers.

Windows 7 hands down. It uses less RAM to run, much easier to use, and in general it has some nice features that Vista doesn't. Just in general wait for Windows 7.

Definitely go for 7 for gaming.

There really shouldn't be a reason for anyone to pick Vista over anything else...you'd be better off w/ the 'ol classic Windows 3.11

I just starting using win 7 x64 a week or two ago, liking it very much so far, more so than vista. No problems yet with games either.

Well since Microsoft will switch to a Unix kernel when hell freezes over, I'll stay with OS X, thank you very much.

Though I wouldn't mind having Win7 64 bit in Boot Camp for certain things, gaming being one of them. :p

:apple: FTW! :D

Having used both for gaming at this point, I'd say wait for Windows 7. Smaller footprint, lower RAM usage, optimized code, better driver handling, and a nicer interface.
