Windows Wireless Problem

Hello all. Yes, i do know that this is an apple forum, but over time i have noticed alot of people on here do use windows based machines, and hopefully those individuals could help me out with this problem. My dads almost new laptop is having wireless issues. He can connect to the availiable wireless network, but for some reason cannot use it to connect to the internet. It says "connected" and it has "excelent" reception. All the other machines in my house, powerbook, imac, ibook, and windows desktop work fine. When i plugged the computer into the ethernet it worked fine. Considering i am the family's technical support, i have spent hours trying to figure something out, but cannot. Im begining to think that his wireless card is simply messed up. Do you guys have any suggestions? Thanks for all the help.

I had the same problem. If you have 3rd party software on the machine to support your wireless card, remove it and use the Microsoft drivers. It worked for me. Good luck.

when you say can't connect do you mean at all?
Can you (in your Web browser) open the page for the router (usually http://192.168.0.1 )?

If that's working, try this address to get to the apple site http://17.254.0.91

It that works it's a problem with the DNS server settings in your wireless connection.

Check whether you have a DNS Server listed in your Network settings (for the wireless connection), and if not add one in (one that's presumably entered correctly on one of the other PCs, or in the wired connection settings). Sometimes you can get away with just putting the router's IP address in and it will do the lookup for you.
