windows xp 64 bit on macbook

hey guys i have a 2.1ghz macbook with 1GB of RAM
can i run xp 64bit on my macbook or should i just pop in a 32 bit

another question which virtualization software should i use vmware or parallel? i know they both do the same but if one has better compat./support for a lowerend mac then thatd be nice.

It's going to be pretty difficult running XP 64-bit without drivers being provided to you. Apple doesn't support XP 64-bit, thus, they don't provide drivers for it. It's possible to run it, but you may have difficulty finding drivers for wireless and possibly other things too.

For your Macbook, I would just use XP 32-bit. You're really not going to see any difference. XP 64-bit never did become as supported as XP 32-bit, and XP 64-bit is really nothing more than Windows Server 2003 64-bit with everything that makes Server 2003 different from XP removed.

I wouldn't recommend running XP 64 anyway, not very good support for it at all. If you want to run windows, run 32Bit XP or 64bit Vista.

I only have experience with VMWare and recommend that.
