Windows XP on macbook

Hey Im having problems installing windows xp in my macbook. I have made the windows xp partition 51 GB and I have burnt a cd with the windows setup files and everything . But when I go to bootcamp and ask it to install windows xp it doesn't recognize the windows xp cd at all. What can the problem be ? Help will be appreciated
Is the XP CD an original Microsoft retail CD of XP Home or Pro that already includes SP2? Those are the olny discs Boot Camp will recognize.
If not, assuming you slipstreamed it or something like that, just try rebooting your Mac with the XP CD in the drive and hold down the option key. it should show you the boot selector and you can choose to boot off the CD and install XP.
If your CD is not bootable you're SOL.

I downloaded Windows Xp with SP 2 from the net. Im in the Computer Science lab of our College (freshman ) so we get free windows XP to download .... around 580 MB. I burnt it in a disc but the only thing is that the name of the disc is new folder but the contents are all the same as the windows xp disc might have. What seems to be the problem. It is bootable. Thank you

Just try to boot off it manually (hold option down with the CD in the drive) and you should be fine. Boot Camp just doesn't recognize your disc, but the firmware should if it is actually bootable.macwhack said:

You can't just download the contents of a Windows XP CD and burn it to a CD and have it be bootable. I jknow your CD is NOT bootable because the name of the CD is New Folder. If you get a legit CD or make your CD bootbale (which requires more files) it will work.

Did you install the Boot Camp drivers? If yes it's not common, if not, install the driversmacwhack said:

I installed the macintosh drivers for windows ( the cd we make before installing windows xp ) still my windows xp is showing 4 question marks in the device manager. What can be the problem? One more thing what is the average macbook battery life? Thanks in advance

(was your download ~90 or 200 MB. 1.1 is ~220 MB).

Hmm... although it's great helping you out, sometimes it's best to get the information firsthand by using the Search feature on the forum.* The informations all out there.

I read all of what you guys are talking about as far as downloading bootcamp 1.1. Is this just to re-create the drivers cd or do you have to do the whole repartition again?

Thanks for the help but after installing the isight, there are still 3 devices left. It may be of no importance being that I'm getting by so long as I have an internet connection and I'm able to run some software.
The three devices are two unknowns, one of which is a on Intel(R) 82801GBM (ICH7-M) LPC Interface Controller - 27B9 device, the other unknown listed as a Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System and 1 PCI device listed as a PCI bus 0, device 7, function 0 (i'm listing the locations). Hope this helps. I've also gone as far as looking at other driver websites with no luck. This is of course a windows xp home installation.
