Windows xp pro upgrade cd mbp help

Hi all, i was wondering if someone could answer this question for me. How does on install Windows xp onto mbp without a full version cd of xp. I recieved an upgrade disk from my school. I appreciate any help in advance

Well, the first step would be to go to somewhere like newegg.com, order a full version of XP, and wait for it to come in the mail. Step two involves running Boot Camp and then installing XP.

Seriously, though, you can't install XP from an upgrade CD, since there's no Windows system to upgrade from. You'll need a full version.

what about installing like win98 per say and then using the xp upgrade? would that work?

Using bootcamp? You can't........simple as that.....
Using Parallel? I don't even think you can with just an upgrade disk......

Edit (just show the above post): In case you are wondering, you cannot install windows 95/98/2000/NT/ME using bootcamp. So As livingfortoday said, there are no OS to upgrade from.

And here is a list of requirements for bootcamp:

* Mac OS X Tiger v10.4.6 or later (check Software Update)
* The latest Firmware updates (check Support Page)
* 10GB free hard disk space
* An Intel-based Mac
* A blank recordable CD
* A printer for the instructions (You’ll want to print them before installing Windows, really.)
* A bona fide installation disc for Microsoft Windows XP, Service Pack 2, Home or Professional (No multi-disc, upgrade or Media Center versions.)

Actually, apparently you can.

It involves slipstreaming SP2 into your distribution (if you don't have an SP2 disc) , copying some files over from your Win98 disc, and burning a new installation CD.
I don't have a Mac yet, so I can't verify this, but it does look promising.

For XP Pro, you might meed 2K, does 98 qualify for XP Pro upgrade?

Another, simpler way, that has been reported to be successful is to sick the validation cd in an external USB optical drive.

If you don't have a valid uninstalled WIndos license to upgrade from you really need to buy the full version somewhere....

Search the Windows on Mac froum for "upgrade".

Yup, 98 works. I've always found it strange that when it checks the 98 CD, it takes a fraction of a second and doesn't actually copy any files. It seems it just checks for a few file names and then moves on (according to the blog post you can zero out all the files to save space on the disc).

If you have an external optical drive, that's definitely easier.
But if you do try and make your own install CD, let us know how it goes!

Used to be all you needed was three empty files to install 98 upgrade.
