I've been running my MBP fine in windows for a while now on a rain mStand in my basement, which is generally cooler than the upstairs part of my house. However, last week I brought my computer upstairs into my music room to do some recording. I brought up my power adapter, but I did not bring up the stand and placed the computer on a stool (no, don't worry, this isn't a story about it falling or something because unlike most people, I take care of my computer).

After doing some recording for about 1-2 hours, I continued to record, but noticed that the program began to "stutter." I didn't think this was a problem in the program, because I've used the same program in the same room on different desktops on the past that were much slower than my MBP with more tracks than what I had up there.

Today I was up in the same room, with the computer in the same fashion, and listening to music, and while listening to music off a CD, it would stutter in the music about every minute or so. I tried disabling the wireless unrelatedly, (to save power, as I was not plugged into a power adapter at this time), and the computer stuttered and froze.

My question: is this something related to heat? The upstairs room where I am in is significantly warmer (by around 5-10 degrees? I am not sure of an estimate of how warm it was, but I'd guess 80-85F?), and the computer during both times did not have air flow from underneath that it would normally have when placed on my rain mStand. Is this something I need to get checked out, or is it something that normally happens when the computer gets hot?

I was using winamp to listen to music and Adobe Audition 1.5 to do the recordings if you need to know what programs I was using at the times of the incidents. Specifications are in the signature

this has never happened in OSX

it is always a good idea to have a cooling pad for your laptop when you use it for more than an hour. ( exstends its life )

make sure you cd is not completely scrahed up cause that can cause skipping.

I have never had xp lock up on me when listening to music.

you might have a virus i would recomend that you scan your computer.

free virus scan software Avg ( is free but dosn't get all viruses) windows defender ( from microsoft free its ok )

If you pay money for a virus scan get norton 2008 internet security ( yes I know norton sucks on macs ,but on pcs you really can't get much better )

I haven't found anything, I'm not really even sure what to search since I'm not sure that there is an official term for this or anything.

I'm wondering if this has something to do with wireless, because when it happens and I disable the wireless, it locks up completely, and doesn't seem to ever happen when I don't have wireless enabled
