Using Parallels on iMac 700 GB c/ 2.8 IC2Duo and 4 GB memory. When Windows XP boots, update windows appear. When I click to install updates, the system "sits and spins", I have never seen it complete the process. What might be the problem?

How long have you waited?
It is Windows after all, and sometimes the updates take quite a while for me... seriously, I'm not just bashing

If it's about Parallels updates on XP, I've had a similar problem but haven't yet got around to contacting Parallels about it here:
http://www.parallels.com/
where you can either pop in and check out the forums:
http://forum.parallels.com/
or 'sign up a ticket' under their Support page.
I've found the forums and support very helpful in other instances.

If it's about Microsoft Windows XP updates installations hanging on shutdown, you need to trawl the Web for that one - unfortunately I didn't bookmark the page, but the suggestion to rename one of the system files as 'old' worked.
