I need to get a copy of Windows XP to install via VMware Fusion to test websites I'm designing and I have a couple of questions. I'm not going to be doing anything but testing, so I don't really care about any features other than the ability to see my websites in the Windows XP environment.

  1. Where is the best/cheapest place to buy XP (I'm a grad student so I qualify for a discount)?
  2. What version of XP should I be looking to get?

Check your school's bookstore. They usually sell cheap software depending on your major/field of study.

Also check MSDAA(?). Its Microsoft's academic area thing. I just heard about it, I'll let other users explain what it is.

Go with XP Professional if you want XP. 32-bit, not 64-bit since 64-bit XP is a disaster.

Thanks for the advice. The problem with MSDNAA and going through my school is that they're only selling upgrade versions of Windows (XP, Vista and 7). That won't work, will it?
